Could be a bad plenum gasket. Not an uncommon repair.

By the way, This doesn't seem like a recall so you should probably post this under the V8 Forum. It will get buried and forgotten here.

How many miles ?
Possible rings getting worn out, or valve guide seals .

As I posted above:

"Could be a bad plenum gasket. Not an uncommon repair."

What you describe is about all of the symptoms of a leaking plenum gasket.

Plenum gasket is on bottom of Intake manifold .
Reason for failure is that the manifold is made of Aluminum , while the 'plenum' cover is made of steel . These two metals have a different expansion rate as they warm up to engine operating temperature .
.
However , once an engine has over 150,000 miles
on it ( depending partialy on what kind of driving ) ; many other items start to enter the
problem situation .
For example , piston rings , and valve guide seals .

Pretty sure my "knock" is due to "pre-ignition",crappy regular gas.

Marty, with the engine off, look down the throttle body with the throttle wide open. If you see oil/ wet down there I would bet the plenum gasket is bad. That would explain your oil disappearing without any leakage.

Thanks daddio,I will check it out.Hope this works out better than the advice I got to "backflush" my heater core, did that with no results.Had to fix my headlight switch (good used switch, melted wires!!)so pulled the dash panel, saw my stupid AC/Heat controls look screwed up,"slider" lever barely goes halfway towards heat.
