Thanks to all who've given input on this problem. Mine is a '01 4.7ltr ext cab and the blower fan didn't work on any switch setting, yet the voltage to the fan was about 12 volts no matter if the switch was on, off, hi or low. I tested the fan with a 12 volt power supply, so I knew it was good and replaced the switch w/ the one from my Durango that I knew worked. I wouldn't have seen the resistor board until the service department had pointed it out (at a nominal fee I'm sure) if it hadn't been for this site. Great job. Keep it up.

Hey All,
I have bookmarked this site!!! Thanks for solving my resistor block problems. I have a 92 Dakota that lost blower power this past summer(2004). I was going to sell the truck, so I put off fixing till now. This funky little piece has a poorly fitting gasket, I'd recommend sealant be used on reinstallation. My part was showing water corrosion on the inside, right where the wire contacts the "rail". This may have been a contributing factor of it's failure. I replaced the blower motor (what a bite to get at....)and after hearing about motors with high current draw, I'll leave the new one in. $$42 isn't so bad. As stated before, Haynes manual doesn't even mention the part exists. My Dakota has been a mixed bag as far as reliability goes. I personally won't buy another Dodge until they change over to ALL Daimler parts. With the exception of the Hemi powerplant, everything else in the truck lineup is below par when compared to the imports. SAD,SAD,SAD...
Thanks again for the invaluable help in this forum. Regards, Fred Koch

You guys are cool.
I have a 2001 dakota, first the low speed didn't work then all I had was the high setting on the blower. I found this place, went to the dealer, service gave me the old gotta check it out line.
I walked over to parts got the $10 resistor you guys are talking about, the parts guy said they go through a heck of a lot of them. It was under the glove box as you guys had said, it was 16F degrees out today and I found it, and had it changed all before I had frostbite.
Thanks to everyone who posted here for giving me the quick, easy fix.

first off i'd like to thank everyone who created this site. Also the people who post their problems and to the fine people that know the answers.

I too had no Heater fan over the weekend in my 1994 dakota. After finding this site I was in awwe to find out I was not alone
This resistor was also the cause and the cure.

I'm not sure where most of you post from in the world but in Toronto Canada this part was $15.10 plus the taxes and 10 min of your time to replace it
Thnaks again you wonderful people

I was driving my '01 down the road yesterday on a balmy 97-deg. Houston day and the blower motor cut out just as others on this post described. The replacement part number was 4885635-AA, it's clearly a more robustly designed resistor than the original part. Thanks to all for the information in this forum. One tip I have is that the resistor is more easily accessed if you first loosen the floor vent, then you can easily get a 5/16" nut driver onto the fasteners retaining the resistor. The screws retaining the floor vent are even the same head size.

As a sidenote, ever since I purchased this vehicle I was never satisfied that the blower produced an adequate air flow - there was no clear differentiation between the third and fourth speed settings on the fan. After replacing the resistor, there clearly was an increase in airflow. If you feel you're not getting adequate airflow it may be a leading indicator of a faulty resistor.

I have a 99 Stratus and the blower motor hasn't been working worth squat for the last few months. I'd turn toward the left and it would blow harder, or if I stopped it would blow harder. Turning right or speeding up would make it go slower. Now it's not blowing at all. I think I'll go home and check this out tonight.
Any advice on how would be GREATLY appreciated. Is it under the steering wheel in the 99 Stratus?
Thanks

Thanks to Paul and Scot, 2001 QC. My blower gave out today and sitting here in 92 degrees in Mi. And to everyone else who posted...great board. Got under the passanger seat and located it with the help of all your posts. Will try it this weekend and hope its the resistor. Also found lots of other help on this site regarding ride (new shocks, Monroe Reflex and worth it) and transmission problems. This site saved me lots of time and worry. Keep it up.....

My heater fan quit today, all that works is High, At least in the 92 degrees in Mi. I could use the AC with the High speed. Thanks, I had come to the conclusion that it was the fan motor, so I will try the resister board first. As I understand this board mounts to the bottom side of the heater housing,on the passenger side, under the glovebox, where the five wire plus in. Procedure is to unplug the five wire connector and remove two screews to remove resistor board.?

Update:
Drove home today from Ypsilanti to Port Huron with no AC in 92 degrees again. Stopped at Van Dyke Dodge and bought the resistor. $8.28 out the door. Istalled it in about a 1/2 hour and blower works fine. Bonus..fan never worked on the first click of the knob. Now it works at all speeds. Thanks again to all that posted this info. Tools required: flashlight or trouble light, 5/16 nut driver. Had a little trouble with removing the connector. Remember to slide the red locking device all the way out to the left and press on the top release. Also had to remove one 5/16 screw from a vent to make room for removing the screw on towards the driver side.

Down here in SC, the heat index is 110 today (8/22/05)
and then my ac stopped working but only works on the
high setting.
Since reading this board, y'all say it's the resistor board/
pack.
Well, before I go to the only dealership in town, is it
under the glove compartment? I know I can change it
out. My specialty is taking my kids toys apart and fixing
them!
I drive a Dodge Durango 2001.
Any info would be great!
Thanks.

Just by reading this forum I fixed my Durango. Took a
little bit of elbow grease, an hour of work & a $10
resistor card from the dealership.

Thanks to all...saved me some mega-$$ at the
dealership if I brought this in.

Any suggestions for shocks? I have Rancho 9000 with
the dial which pumps them up and everytime I tow my
boat it pops the shock plug and costs me $80 to get
someone to plug 'em up. Any suggestions on new
shocks? Thanks (sorry to hi-jack the thread).

This post is awesome! I had the exact same problem with my 2002 Durango as all of you did... fan only worked on the highest setting (that bypasses the blower resistor). Got the blower resistor on ebay for $13 and put it in myself in 30 minutes. Like everyone says, it's under the dash on the passenger's side, a little hard to access but got it out with a 5/16 socket and some patience. Dodge should recall and replace this for everyone!

I have a 2003 Dodge Stratus-Blower just went out today. It only works on the (4)highest setting. My car has only 37,000 miles, but I don't know if Dodge will cover under warranty. Obviously Dodge has a real problem with blower resistors burning out, must not have fixed the problem as my car is a 2003. If its not covered I will order the part and fix ourselves, but I'm really glad I found this site. Thanks to everyone.

Wish I would have found this site sooner. Just paid about $100 to have this fixed. Sounds like another problem similar to the ball joint issue they finally had to recall. Losing my faith in Dodge!
