Subject: Lost control? Rattle in front?

I have heard an awful pop/rattle in my front since about 15,000 miles ago. I go to the dealer and they replace the steering shaft. Still the rattle is there when I am on a rough road it's as if everything is falling apart out from under my truck.

So this morning I am taking a moderate curve at about 20mph and it's as if I can't steer the truck, the truck rams into a guard rail resulting in only front bumper damage. It's at the dealer now going over with a fine tooth comb, the rack/pinion ball joint tie rods etc, they said they'd look at. I know they are gonna say it's because the roads were damp. That's not the case. If they want to say that then I'll take it to another Chrysler dealer for a 2nd opinion. I could have been killed probably because of fault equipment on the front end.

What all could have caused this intermittent problem. Email me if this has happened to you or have had these problems before. Thanks

Dakotas seem to have problems with upper ball joints. If the dealer tells you this please contact NHTSA and file a complaint. This item is under investigation for a recall.

Sounds like you owe that dealership a law suit.

Ok, this was my problem coming from the front end. It would clunk when hitting a bump, it got really bad. When you hit a bump the steering wheel shifted. Hit a bump, then back to normal.

What a was was a loose control arm nut. How the mechanic found it was by having someone drive it slow and slam on the brakes, he could see the lower control arm move.

Tighented it back up and no more funny sounds or handling problems. Oh, When you brake, the ABS would kick it early too.

The dealer said all of the steering components were operating normal. Nothing wrong with the ball joint, rack/pinion steering, etc. Everything checked out okay. Guess it was just the driving conditions. Got it fixed for $408 so that's not too bad.

Still having the rattle and pop so I take it to another dealer and they say the left upper/lower ball joint and tie rods need replaced. Sounding more like a lawsuit everyday to me.

Report your concerns and problems to the NHTSA!

File a report, they are the only ones who can force DCX to perform a recall.
