I am experincing a, what seems like an engine miss between 47 & 52 MPH. I have had the vehicle to the dealer several times and am informed that Chrysler is aware of the problem and is working on a fix. Seems like the fix is never coming. I now need to take the vehicle in so the Zone Rep can do a test drive.
I am told the problem stems from the new 3.7 engine and the drive train configuration I have in the vehicle.
Anyone else out there with a 2004, 3.7 having similar problems.
I think Chrysler really screwed up by going away from the 3.9.

So far I haven't noticed any problem like that in my 04 3.7L. It runs like a charm. Hope you figure out the cause though.

I also have a 04 with the miss problem.I have had it to the dealer and was told they have heard of no other problems. The problem is when it shifts into overdrive at 47 mph it will mis-fire until it reaches about 60 mph.Pushing the overdrive button to off,the mis is not there. If Dodge figures out the problem please post what they corrected.

DaimlerChrysler is well aware of the program. I have been fighting this problem since May. Their Washington Zone Tech Rep verified the problem. The DaimlerChrysler engineering answer is that this is a normal condition. They even identified the problem is a vehicle on the lot in a similar configuration with a 3.5L engine.
My two cents. It is not normal for a vehicle to misfire underload. If it does, there is a definite problem and needs corrected.

i also have this problem. i have the 3.93 gears and the 3.7 engine. right as i go into about 42-50mph it does it. but then again it also idles a little rough and seems to miss there too. i am taking it in friday and dodge had better fix this problem and not give me some bull$hit line. the truck stickered for 26 k and i will not take any excuse that this is normal. please keep me updated as to how this is fixed so i can pass it along to my service tech

The Dodge answer via e-mail and telephone is that this engine miss problem is a normal condition. Recommend you send a letter to the Daimler Chrysler folks via the address in the Lemon Law booklet and also send e-mails to the Customer Assistance Center on Dodge.Com and voice your problem, concern and opinion. Perhaps if enough of us are heard at the high levels something will be done.

I also am having the problem with a miss at 45-55 mph.I have taken my Dakota to 2 different dealerships and was told by each that this is "normal" to Dakotas because there were 2 or 3 other ones on their lot that also have the miss. This may be common on this vehicle but it is not normal.I am glad that a wheel or two didn't fall off of a couple of these or they would probably say this is normal.I don't see myself purchasing another Dodge if this is normal for their products.

I wrote to this in Aug.since then I have asked many people. One person I spoke with is a Mopar freak.I was telling the problem and he told me I drove the truck like grandma. There is a shutter in the tranny that shifts these trucks in overdrive at that speed to get the gas milage out of these trucks in other words drive like it was meant to be driven and the problem will ease.If it does not try a tranny flush.I have 19,000 on my 04 and the problem is not like it was 15,000 miles ago.I am getting 20 mpg.Good luck.

Mine misses, too. I think the problem is that the V6 is underpowered in overdrive at these speeds, and it doesn't so much miss as it "Lugs" and stumbles. The transmission kicks down when it needs to if you use cruise control, and the problem goes away but affects your economy.

Something to talk about next time you think about buying.

At last I know Im not going crazy. We have had
our 2004 Dakota in two different shops a total of
6 times for this engine miss problem. Each time we
get the same line, "The computer says there is
nothing wrong". Chrysler reps will not return our
calls, the dealer says this is between us and Chrysler, and just overall lack of customer care.
I'll never buy Chrysler Dodge again and strongly
advise the same.

Rany, it sounds like your dealer isn't willing to help either. he should have never said "this is between us and Chrysler". anyway do a search on this forum, there is a post somewhere for the same problem and i believe i read that chrysler has a fix for the software which was causing the problem. good luck, and i would kick that dealer's @ and get him in gear to fix your truck.

okay i know i don't know alot about trucks but i am not stupid i bought my dakota this may it is a quad cab 2004 the second week i had it they had to replace the power steering and it was in two more times because of the crunching sound it was making then the malfunction light came on and stayed on they fixed that and right at the dealers the 4wd indicator light came on and they had to call to find out how to resolve that situation and i don't have a 4 wheel drive, they did something and the light was removed or whatever that was a week ago and today the check engine light came on and the temp qauge read hot so i turned it off and then on again and the light went out but there was no power to the engine so i put it in neutral (like may stepdad told me when i was younger and had a vapor lock) and reved it up and it missed so bad and very little power my truck has been back to the dealer 6 times and monday will be 7 i have contacted daimlerchrysler and a lemon law attorney and i just don't know why all these things are happening to a truck with 3,801 miles on it i bought it new and paid it off i am so stressed does anyone have any ideas what could be happening i don't think the techs even know what the h*ll their doing and of course here comes a female and they are gonna bull sh** me well they got the wrong female cuz i am so pissed off and totally inconvenienced

Hallelujah!!! There is joy in Mudville. I just picked up my 2005 3.7L, Quad Cab Dakota (AUTO) from the dealer after getting the 45-55 mph Engine Miss problem resolved. They reflashed the Powertrain Control Module to eliminate the miss. No Technical Service Bulletin has assigned yet, but the fix was approved Oct 04. After the Service Manager kept bugging the DaimlerChrysler Technical Service Rep. on a every other day basis, he finally was provided with a way to download the "flash". It works just like a TSB. A number is typed into the computer which then queries the vehicle computer to identifier the torque controller number. After that the flash is then downloaded and installed.
KEEP BUGGING YOUR DEALER, AS THERE NOW IS A FIX.
