 Subject: Odd Smell

After driving my truck and getting out, I'm noticing a "burnt rubber" sort of smell coming from my front end. Sometimes' I can smell it while driving. Anyone know what this may be? And no, I'm not squawking my tires. I don't drive it rough at all. No problems yet with 56,000 miles and counting!

I have the same problem 02 3.9. Only happens when I drive it hard. Thinking something with the belts or it might be something other than rubber. Something dripping internally. Really gets strong and annoying.

I crapped my pants in my Mazda B200 that I pimped up to look like a Dak. Smells like my trailer on less semeney.

It could be power steering fluid. my 93 had a P/S leak, and it got on the belt, then the belt would slip. The combo of P/S fluid, and burnt belt will make you sick.

i had a '90 Plym. Horizon that did the same thing. it smelt to high heaven going up a steep hill in 3rd. think it might have been overheating, but thermostat was shot so i just ignored it. sounds like your problem is a belt. check the serpentine belt for wear and tension, as the tensioner on the dak are suspect. though usually if its a worn belt it will break pretty soon after you get a strong smell. I just had my belt and tensioner done on my 2000 dak.
