Hey guys, I'm a long time "lurker" and have found this site to be extremely helpful when I had questions regarding my 98 Dak. So, I finally need some help...

I was on my way up north (for you MI folk ;) ) this weekend and I had a quad in the bed, and was pulling a small trailer with a dirt bike on it. I was toolin down the X-way when all of a sudden I heard a weird noise from the engine compartment and the rpm's jumped on the tach. When I tried to rev the engine, the truck just seemed to bog down. Pull of to the side of the road, everything is cool. Fluids are where they should be, everything seems normal. I jump back in the truck to give her a test drive and boom, im back on the road like nothing happened.

On the way back the same thing happens to me at roughly 150 miles from the cabin. This time I've pawned off the trailer to my buddies F-150 so the load has been lightened a bit. The truck looses power, I pull over to let it cool then I'm back on the road. This time it's only for about 15 min. The kicker of the situation is that I could tool along at like 40 mph and didn't have a prob because I made it to a Dodge dealership about 10 miles from where I had to pull off.

I'm lookin for someone who's expirenced something like this. I'm afraid it's going to cost me thru the ass if it's the tranny.

Also, do the 98 Daks have a 7/70,000 powertrain coverage?

The specs of the truck are as follows. 98 ex cab, 5.2L 2-wheel drive with 64,000.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
