I have asked several dakota questions and have received outstanding tips. Now I will challenge you with a motorcycle question too. I have a 2000 Suzuki Bandit 600 that I did not properly winterize (I know, I know, it was stupid). The problem is the bike just bogs down when I give it gas. It will not rev at all when I pull the throttle. I have replaced all the gas, sprayed carb cleaner on the carb and jets (as best I could) changed the oil and plugs, now I am stuck. The battery was also replaced. Any suggestions? It starts right up but idles erratically from idle to 5k rpm. It just surges until I give it gas and it dies. Thanks for the help. By the way I took the carbs apart and they look fine-needle is clean and the jets appear not to be clogged. It took hours to get thoses carbs off and back on so I am trying not to go through that ordeal again. Thanks again.

When you took the carbs off, did you clean them up really good as well? Sounds like you might have some gunk in there from the gas. Have you run carb cleaner through the tank(I know you said you sprayed as much as you could)?
Also, check the air filter and spark plugs and clean if necessary.

Yeah I ran carb cleaner through the fuel, changed the plugs, etc. A couple of the carb bowls were stripped (stupid brass screws) so all I could do was fill the bowls and let it soak. Overall, the ones I did take out did not appear to be that bad. I guess now I will try the fuel filter and check for vacuum leaks. Thanks for your help.

Hey, what's up... don't really have an answer to your problem but I just wanted to say I have a dakota and a bandit as well! I bought a 2001 1200s a little while back and just love it. Not a big fan of the fairing, plan to get rid of it, but I love the bike. I live in Tx so I never have to winterize. Good luck on your bike!

not sure if you got the bike running... but you need to do the carbs again. you may want to take that carbs off and take them to a bike shop or get a shop manual and tech yourself how to clean the carbs out correctly. there are several jets and ports (not much bigger then a hair) that need to be cleaned very well before it will run correctly.

just a few words of advise... stabil, get a battery charger and remove the battery for the winter place in basement or garage, change the oil, drain the gas (only stays good for approx. one month), lube the chain and change the blinker fluid... j/j.

if your up and running - it's been a great year.

Sounds to me like the jets are clogged. Most likely the slow jet is clogged based on your description. And after taking the carbs apart and reinstalling them, they're going to need to be sychronized as well.

Also, be careful with Stabil. It works great if you use the right amount, but too much can be just as bad as too little. For the battery, I use a Battery Tender. Works great, extends life of the battery as well. And definately change the oil, both when you store it, and when you take it out.
