I have a 93 auto 318. Havn't had the truck long but know that The transmissiong don't like over drive when pulling loaded or anythin on hills. The overdrive also from what mine does doesan't respond to hiss well either it doesn't like to shift out and the motor puts the strain on it to try and push the truck up.

yeah maybe but I'll bet you drive the shlt out of it too! prolly one of them street racer types that does not realize that the tranny is built just a bit weaker then the rest of the drive train so it breaks instead of the crank shaft. Says so right in Chiltons Truck repair manual.

No slopehead I think it's just a piece of sh!t tranny and it should take what you can put to it while driving and hauling. It's a dodge dakota not a mazda.

I have seen them last 300,000 miles. My friend has one that was used on a farm the first 120,000 or so then he bought it. His brother has the same truck and his also has close to 300,000 on it. Both have the V6 but they use them for hualing scrap metal and recyleing. They change their fluid every 70,000 and do not tow in overdrive. You should never tow in overdrive. If you tow in overdrive you will kill any automatic transmission. To be honest I am suprized that they have lasted this long with them neglecting the fluid and filter changes!

I had to rebuild my tranny in my 93 dakota 4x4 at 145,000 miles. What I found out is that the reverse and first gear planitaries are weak. There is an upgrade that changes it from a three spur gear system to a five gear system. Since I've had mine rebuilt, I've put 60,000 miles on it. I use my truck for construction. I keep an average of about 1800 lbs. of tools in the back of the truck, and I pull an 18' trailer with it about three times a week. My heaviest load, truck and trailer weight, has been 14,800 lbs. and I have the weight slip to prove it. I do not pull in overdrive at all. My truck has over 200,000 miles on it and it runs very well. Besides the transmission, I've put a timing chain and sprockets in it at 114,000 miles. This truck owes me nothing, and keeps right on ticking. In case some of you are wondering, I have 2000lb. air bags on the rear suspension. Thanks for reading my opinion!

I was told by a shop a few yrs ago to always put it in nuetral when idling because these tranny's do not circulate fluid unless in nuetral. They said thats what caused my trans to burn out at 75,000. i was always parked with it running but it wasn't in nuetral. And of coarse always change fluid on time with correct stuff. Now on my newer dakota i have 125,000 on the original trans ( a record for any dodge i've owned).

My 500,000 mile experience says use Amsoil ATF. I change using a reverse flow machine. 14 quarts. Only had the pan off twice.
Early-on the torque converter wouldn't lock. 3 dealers and 2 transmission shops said replace the transmission. The engineers at Oil Analysers (Amsoil) said there was nothing wrong. They were right. It was the throttle position sensor.
