I have an 02 quad cab and I have only had it for a little bit over a year now. On my truck the front brake pads and rotors are shot already. I dont do any hard breaking or "late breaking" or anything like that on them. I have abou 13,000 miles on my truck. Has anyone else had this problem before?
Thanx guys

I have a 2002 Dakota reg cab 4x2 with 12,000 miles and have pulsation. The dealer says this is common and it will probably take 2 years for the factory to find a cure. The grand cherokees had this problem and that is how long it took to fix them, says the dealer. I will be out of warranty by then, how convienient! My truck also has issues with a popping noise and sensation if any one knows about this problem, it does it when I turn, or stop, Help!

Vince, there is a TSB out for the popping sound, it's from the steering column somehow I think.

Please read this link:

http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/warped_rotors_myth.htm

My 01 QC's feel funny sometimes. I've done nothing, and they seem to 'fix' themselves.

I think if the people that had that weird feeling pedals would wait a while, it would 'fix' itself in most all cases.

Mine stops OK.
Good luck

Grand Cherokee's still have the rotor problem.
It's cheaper for Chrysler to deny problem than to replace rotors with better quality. After 1 year it's your problem not their's.
My wife's 99 GC had the rotors replaced about every 8k by the dealer free until the 36k warranty expired then i replaced them with slotted rotors and no problem since.
My 04 dak needed rotors at 13k.

I had my factory rotors turned at 20k miles. Sanded the pads at that time also. Put a total of 60k miles on the original pads and rotors before the rotors were warped again. Just put the cheap-o WearEver brand from Advance on my truck a while ago. Spent a total of $79 for everything. Got 3k miles on em so far with no probs. I'm really curious to see if this $79 brake job will outlast the factory equipment. My guess is that it will.

I bought my 02 Dakota Quad cab new in 02 and paid for the bumper to bumper if anything goes wrong warrenty. Three months later my front left wheel almost falls off at the spindle... twice. The only thing keeping it on was the brake rotor and caliper. When I went to get it fixed I had to pay for pads and bent rotors to be replaced (not covered under warranty)even though warranty problem caused brake trouble. From that time to now, 120,000 miles later I have replaced rotors and pads (ceramic) two more times and they are bad again. I have also replaced the spindles once because I have a bad pulsing vibration every time I used the brakes and found the problem was in the design of the spindles where the pads slide on the rails cast into the spindles. A pocket forms in the machined surface of the face of these rails...allowing the pads to vibrate when brakes are applied. I tried to buy a set at a salvage yard and found all to be the same. I again need another set of spindles along with brake parts. Never again!!!! When you guys pull your brakes appart or have it done check these surfaces or have your mechanic check them. I believe this should be a recall.

I've had an '02 club cab 5 speed since new it's got just over 31,000 miles on it and now 2 times in the past 6 months my front brakes have completely locked up on me. The weird thing is that it doesn't happen after heavy braking, the first time it happen when I was just cruising down the road and the second time happened when I came to a yeild. Does anyone know why the hell this randomly happens?

Warping Rotors: I used to go through rotors as well. I read that uneven torquing of your lug nuts can help lead to rotor warping. And be sure to employ the star pattern sequence when tightening the lugs.

I finger tighten all nuts in the star pattern. Then snug with the tire iron. Then put the torque wrench on them and tighten to 115 lbs-ft. (My Haines manual says from 85 to 115 is acceptable.)

Also, I tend to turn Overdrive OFF when doing medium to hard braking. Much like you would downshift in a manual. Saves some wear on the brakes & rotors and helps stop the truck faster. The Dakotas are heavy trucks (mine is V8) for the brakes they wear.

I have 2000 Dodge Dakota Sport Cab and a set of front rotors would warp every year or two. I even tried vented and slotted rotors.
.
Then I phoned Brake Warehouse in Binghamton, NY
and the person said he used to own a 1999 Dakota Truck.
He advised against using ceramic pads.
Rather he said the truck needs Kevlar/High Carbon Steel Pads
and High Temp Slotted and Drilled rotors.
.
After 2 years with this set up the front breaks are fine.
