Does anyone know if the Moog balljoints for the
99's will fit my 01 4.7 ext. cab? My right upper ball joint is bad and needs to be replaced, I am
still under warranty but would rather replace it with a greasable aftermarket ball joint. Thanks.
I am also thinking about replacing my front and rear shocks, they are really bouncy for a 2WD. I have 27,000 miles.

I bought MOOG upper ball joints a while back
for my '02 Quad cab. CarQuest didn't have a
listing for 2002 so I used '98 or '99.

They worked great except I had to drill out the
bolt holes in the new ball joints and use 7/16"
fine tread grade 8 bolts instead of the 5/16"
bolts and lock nuts that came with the Moogs.

I drilled them out because the holes in the
upper A-arm were 7/16". I'm not sure why,
maybe the earier Gen 3 Dakotas had smaller
diameter rivets holding the balljoints to the
A-arms or something.

It's worked great for the past 5,000 miles.

Hope this helps,

Lemmers,
thanks so much! Yes that definetly helps.
If it wasn't for guys like you going out on a limb and trying something on your own, I'd be stuck going to the Dodge Dealership and paying a large bill. I really appreciate your help. This forum is great. After I read your post, I ordered the upper Moog ball joint today and will be replacing it soon. Thanks again, this problem has really been annoying and has gotten worse.
