Subject: Is it the cat?
IP: Logged

Message:
There is a constant rattling coming from underneath my truck...It's not my exhaust, cause I just had a new flowmaster dual exhaust put on it. I'm guessing it's the cat, but I'm not sure...I've heard somewhere that all cats are under dealer waranty for 8 years and they have to replace it by federal law...is that true? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Was the rattling noise present before the cat-back system was installed? If not then maybe you should take it back to the installer of the cat-back system to have them recheck their install. They could have changed the alignment of the exhaust system so that it is coming in contact with something else.

SAME problem man!!

I put my flowmaster on... and now the cat is rattling. I gotta call the dealership monday so they can fix it.

I'm just worried cause they may not want to touch it since the flowmaster is on it.

well i thought the same thing with mine but i took it to a muffler shop and found out that one of the heat shields came loose so they just welded it back on for me free of charge, just take a look under your dak and see if there is anything loose, mine was near the front axle. maybe that or it is your cat

hey guys try this take your daks out, way out into the woods some day, where it is legal to hunt. Gut a 12 or better yet a 10 gauge shotgun. crawl under your trucks and shot the dam cat. If it make the noise again you did not kill it do this until the cat quits making noise, then you know you have "Fixed the Cat". enough already about cats.

I recently had the muffler removed completly. My cat was going out before the muffler was removed. I took it to Midas and they said it was under warranty for 8yr/80k Miles. The dealer asked if I knew that the truck had no muffler. ( I wondered why it seemed louder than normal) they replaced my cat at no cost with 54K miles on the truck.

there could be rocks in between the shiel and the cat. I had that problem after I put flowmasters on mine simply because making it louder shook it more. I just had to tap it with a screwdriver to knock the rocks out.

quite possibly...most rattling is caused from loose heat shields. The band goes loose and needs to retightened or welded back tight. I had an old explorer that had a loose heat plate, just tore it off.

i recently purchased a 98 r/t cc w/68k on odo.
on start up in morning sound like marble in tin can.coming home one evening running 55 mph the truck just bogs no power. towed to local dodge dealer cat came apart inside.was covered under warranty. get it checked as soon as you can or it may leave you with a tow bill not covered under warranty.
