If you bring it to the dealer they will repaint it. They painted mine for free.
I would recommend taking it to the dealer then take it to a regular shop to have them apply a few more coats of clear-coat. Even after mine was repainted it still chips.

Mine has been repainted twice now, and its starting to chip again. I have a 98 rc sport that i had painted to match the blue instead of having the black bumper. the first time it was repainted it started chipping right away. I then had my whole truck repainted. Looks super kill now, except for the bumper is starting to bubble again, It will start chipping anytime soon. The dealership keeps paying for it though, so its not that bad.

dianne,it sounds like you have delamination, which is diffrent from rock chips,if its factory, and has never been painted before, and your still under warrenty, the dealer is responsible for fixing it.

Yea the paint warranty would be out, but you might be able to find a dealer who can talk their DM into painting it for you, especially if its been an ongoing thing and you had it documented

true Dianne ONE rock won't, but a whole mess of tiny rocks and sand and pebbles and stones and bits of metal over time does.

There is an industrial process known as sand blasting, and when your bumper hits this stuff, over time, the effect is the same, the paint gets removed.

We sell Valspar/Debeer and repairing your vehicle today with aftermarket paints is 10 times better than about 15 to 20 yrs ago. Much more durable ,but still suseptable to rock chips.

Hey Rick I started useing Debeer about six months ago and that is the best basecoat system i have used in 25 years! Blows Dupont out of the water! And it is CHEAPER than Dupont! Great colormatch for me.

can't imagine dodge repainting a bumper when the whole truck has had yellow spots all over it from railroad dust they called it and I bought bumper to bumper and this was reported to them long before the warranty run out! But! of couse they could buff it out for 150.00 but it still would probably come back then go get it buffed again for 150.00 (I DON"T THINK SO) I just will never buy another DODGE!
Because they don't come good for anything for me and a extended warranty though them is a laugh!!!
tks dianne

Saurus has the perfect solution. Powdercoating. Dont right it will outlast the truck (and considering the amount of problems people have with Dakotas, it wont need to last too long. :D )
