Message:
We bought a 91 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, 4.7 Liter in January, 2001. It was used by the Dodge dealership, but was not a used vehicle with former owner.

We are experiencing similar problem to some described by others of you, but our problem resulted in a wreck and severe damage to truck frame.

I have spent the days since wreck trying to find tsb directives which relate to this type problem. We are thinking this is not just our truck. I would appreciate if anyone can supply me with the tsb info or personal experience. We are due to meet with insurance adjustor tomorrow over last week's wreck and I would like to greet him informed and prepared. I just found this site this afternoon.

Our truck doesn't just act as though someone hit it from behind, it lurchs forward when brake applied for stop (say to park). It excellerates with no warning. Applying brake did not stop truck at time of wreck. Had to force gear shift into nuetral. This unexplained excelleration does not happen every time truck is stopped, but obviously happened once too often.

Last time this happened as truck was being parked, foot applied to brake, truck inexplicably excellerated, climbed stairs at front of store and nearly went through the glass doors into cash registers. Fortunately, no customer was walking in/out doors at that precise moment. Severe frame damage has resulted to the truck and it is questionable if it will be repaired.

I appreciate any help any of you can give me. I have printed several of your emails describing similar problem, but could use any info you have to share.

There is a concern if Dakota is totalled, should we replace with same truck. I am searching to see if this is common problem.

Oops, I sure do mean 2001 purchased in Jan, 2002.

Thanks.
