WELL I STILL HAVE THE FRONT END TICKING PROBLEM BUT NOW I'VE DISCOVERD A NEW PROBLEM. YOU KNOW THE PART OF THE SIDEWALK THAT LEVELS WITH THE STREET SO THAT CARS CAN PULL INTO PARKING LOTS. WELL IF I TAKE THE TURN A LITTLE SHARP AND FAST AND THERE IS A LITTLE HUMP TO DRIVE OVER..I HEAR A LOUD "POP" COMING FROM THE BED OF THE TRUCK. I DONT KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN IT ANY EASIER. SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A RECALL/DEFECT THING. ANYONE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM? 1998 3.9

Check your lower shock mount bolts on my 2002 ram the stock bolt is 14mm thick and the holes are 16mm thick. The way to check is jack the whole rear end to where the suspension is bottomed out and then undo lower bolt slightly if it rattles that is the problem. While you are at it take out the bolt and see if the shock rebounds when force is applied to it. If it doesn't rebound on the mopar shocks replace them.

Replace the balljoints, upper and lower, immediately. Take it from me. I am a savvy owner who knows a thing or two about sucking balls.

I have checked the ball joints before in the by the book industry test and find no play. I had an upper go out on me at 35000 barely within warranty and got no problems. I will be checking my balljoints again shortly anyway as I do suspect my driver side upper may slowly be going out. However I don't get a pop it is more a rattle but is not as pronounced as of yet. All bolts are tight and torqued down. I have even greased all balljoints with a grease gun needle however i need to patch the cvs as the continue to leak for some reason but nothing else does. Do you know of any nonstandard ball joint tests other than the jacking up the truck and testing for play greater than .060"?
