Subject: Dealer Service???? Never Again!!!!

I know this is a long post, but please read it. Don’t let this happen to you.

Brought my ‘01 DQC 4.7 5-Speed to the Dodge dealer in Manchester, NH for a 30K service. Oil Change, tune up, radiator fluid replacement among other things. When I got it home, I noticed that the HOSE CLAMP holding the plenum to the throttle body was loose. That made me start looking around. Also found the bracket that holds the air conditioning lines in place was broken and the bolt that holds the bracket to the manifold was stuck between the block and the exause manifold. Called the Service Writer. He did a lot of the usual sucking up. Asked me to bring the truck back the next day.

Brought the truck back to the dealer the next day. Service writer wasn’t there, nor was the service manager. Had to deal with another writer, who ordered the bracket to replace the broken one. Waited two weeks. In the course of waiting, I noticed that the truck ran worse after the tune up. Looked at the sparkplugs. The tech who did the job didn’t bother gapping them and three of them were over .060, they should have been .040. The tech also didn’t do any of the lubrication that was supposed to be part of the service.

Talking about feeling screwed! I let the writer know about all of this when I finally brought the truck back to have the bracket replaced. I waited two hours for the job to be completed. When they finally drove the truck around the front of the building, I lifted the hood to see how the job went and what do you think I found..................THE SAME HOSE CLAMP WAS LOOSE AS THE LAST TIME AND THE BRACKET WASN’T REPLACED. What the heck did they do for two hours? It seems as though the right part number was on the package but the wrong part came in it. I am making them mail the part to me and I will install it myself. I also made the writer credit me for the spark plug installation, considering I did the job right and the “trained Technician” didn’t have the time to gap the plugs before installing them. He didn’t even blow the dust out of the spark plug holes.

In the end, all the service writer could say was that it was unusual that this particular tech would make those kinds of mistakes. I think all the tech was interested in was the “flat rate” with as little effort as possible. The writer was also concerned that I was going to give them bad marks on their survey. He said that the bad marks reflected on him. I say, if that’s the case, then he shouldn’t have allowed me to see the truck until he did a complete inspection on the job to make sure it was right.

I will never go back to the Manchester, NH Dodge dealer for service again. With the amount of money I spent on that job, they didn’t even take the greasy floor paper out of the truck.

On that note, never take a vehicle to TOCCOA FORD in TOCCOA GEORGIA. Long story, try and give you the breif one. Wifes thunderbird. Said I had a cracked head. Said I needed a valve job. To prove I needed the valve job, the tech put the engine at TDC on compression stroke and put compressed air to it. I guess he thought I was a straight dumba_ss, cause he didnt hold the engine. So, naturally, the engine does a quarter turn, said piston runs to BDC, and air slowly leaks out the exhaust due to the fact that overlap on the cam means the exhaust valve was frikkin opening up already. When he showed me that "idiot tricker" stunt, I just drove the car home. Turned out the whole thing was a feul injector, which I was able to diagnos and replace myself with a multimeter and a frigging wrench.
Same story with people tripping all over themselves to apologize. Man, some folks aint worth the effort.

If you need dealer service in NH, go to Allen
Mello in Nashua and request either Bill
English or Rick Herland to work on your car.
They know their stuff and will not rip you off
despite being flat rate. You're not the first
person to complan about Bonneville and
Sons. (Gee, how'd I figure out which dealer in
Manchester SUCKS?)

that sucks. My dealer had a thing where they do the service for the first 36000 miles. They called me the next day and said it was done. I drove it home and the truck seemed louder than normal. it sounded a little meaner so it got me looking. well I popped the hood and looked in the engine bay. It took me abotu 2 minutes to figure out what the hell I was looking at. it seems they removed the whole air intake system and forgot to put it back. I caled them up and told them. they wouldnt believe me so I drove it back down with my wifes Nylon as a screen. I was so bent. they looked for it and it seems it was thrown away. It took 2 weeks to get another intake system. They werent gonna give me a rental till I went and spoke to the general manager. he immediatley had a intrepid waiting for me. I couldnt believe it. That was the last time I took it there. i found a better dealer abtou 4 miles from my house

Out of five different Dodge dealers in NJ and PA, I have only found one that knows what they are doing and cares what happens. Mt. Ephraim Dodge in Mt. Ephraim, NJ is the only one that has not screwed up. Seems like 5-star service doesn't really mean much, does it??

Anyone know a good one in Michigan?

Here's my story:

Tamaroff Dodge in Michigan. Had a bedliner put in when I bought it, for free. Bedliner was defective (big bow in the middle). Had it replaced in July 2002. When the idiot put in the new bedliner, he kicked it to go under the rails. He scratched my paint off, bent the rail, gouged the liner, etc. Of course the body shop fixed the damaged, but the service manager refused to give me another bedliner. The gouge is really small, but it's the fact that they damaged it. Of course, there were letters sent to about 5 different people, but I don't expect to hear anything, dealership service areas don't care about anything.

Just my 2 cents.

I just had a good dealer service experience. My '00 QC has the problem where the manual transmission throws itself out of first occasionally. Took it to two different dealers when I was living in the Florida panhandle (the part of the country that was rejected by Alabama!), and both said they couldn't fix it because they couldn't recreate the problem. I recently moved to Connecticut, and took it in this morning to the Valenti Auto Mall in Stonington, told them that two other dealers had not been able to recreate it, and they immediately got a tech to come out and watch me get it to happen. As Murphy's law would have it, I couldn't get it to pop out of first, but the tech said he would try again later (it usually happens in the afternoon, when it is warmer out). I told him there was a TSB out on the problem, and he said he'd take a look at it. My wife drove me home, and there was a message waiting for me to call the service department. In the half-hour it took us to get home, they had diagnosed the problem and ordered the parts. Should be fixed by tomorrow afternoon!

There are some good dealers out there, it's just hard to find them.

Oh, you want a good story? I dropped my Dakota off at a local dealership for a water pump & ball joints. While they had the truck they called to tell me I needed new brakes (which was funny because I had just replaced the front pads & rotors). So, they lied about that. Then, while working on the ball joints, the mechanic sheered off a grease fitting (and didn't fix it). Finally, to top it off.....ready for this.....they never installed the new water pump! The mechanic painted my old one, then billed Dodge for the new one. He got paint all over my engine. Needless to say, they apologized and fixed everything....but come on.

While they had it for that, I had them check out a popping sound when I did tight turns....they said I needed a new steering column (expensive and not covered by warranty). I fixed it myself in 30 minutes, it only needed to be re-aligned. P.S. - I read the TSB on it from one of the strings somebody posted here....this site saved me $1200.

Robert,
I think you should give this dealer a friendly plug while your at it. Let us know who the dealer is and where it is located, so anyone in the area will be leary when they take their truck to them.

This bad dealer phenomenon is getting out of hand. I live in WA state and have been a Chrysler owner for almost 30 years with the past 5 being the worst. This is due to poor service and "screw the customer" attitude. Also,it does not seem to matter if it is a Dodge or a Chrysler dealer.
As one possible solution, I think it is time for this website to set up a dealer rating/complaint category plus forward the emails to Daimler Chrysler Customer Service daily! If this brought favorable results, perhaps paying for membership to support this site would then be justified. Burying the complaints within all other categories amounts to just blowing off steam.

In response to LAW. Let me be the first to name a Dodge Dealer in Washington as a lame bunch of consumer ripoff Mo-Fo's. Tom Matson Dodge in Auburn Washington. I bought a 2000 Dakota from them in June of this year. Had the rotors and drums turned about 1 month after I drove it off the lot to the tune of $332.00. I got about 8,000 miles out of the $332 rip-off rotor job. Today they told me the rotors were warped again, but they couldn't turn them because they would be out of tolerance. I went to a private shop and had Raybestos "Power-Stops" installed along with Raybestos Ceramic Pads. Total cost including labor and tax - $354.42 - Wish I'd seen this Dakota website in June. If you go to this dealership- bring your own Vaseline - you'll need it!
