I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport 4x4 and have the same problem with the pressure being on the high side. Never had any problems, it must be normal.

I have a 2000 Dakota 4.7L. I received it from my father in law in 2003 and have had it for almost 2 years now. It's always been towards the high/normal side and I've never had a problem with it.

High oil pressure?? I have a 2000 club cab 4.7 liter, the oil pressure went from high to low to floating?? I stopped the vehicle and waited an hour restarted and same thing. Drug it home now parked in yard as a yard ornament. Cant find anyone qualified to fix it. Dealer says it's fine?? FIne i'm not going to drive without oil pressure and blow an engine just so the dealer can charge be thousands for a new one. Believe it's the oil pump, dont know for sure? On the 3.9 and 5.o liter the pump is in the oil pan. On the 4.7 it's in the center, means a total rebuild, sludge ?? poor workmanship?? Help!!! Waiting patiently, bought a chevy to get around, works great.

have you actually checked it with a mechanical gage? it could just be the sending unit acting up. the oil pressure is supposed to flucuate a little.

Bottom line. Electic guages are famous for being inacurate. You really want to know what it is use a quality mechanical guage. The auto builders like to have a somewhat high reading showing. Makes the owner feel his engine is in really top shape. The real point of a guage or light is to tell you that there is oil pressure period. Can they build them acurate? You bet if they wanted to. Speedomoters are, Tachs are and there much more complicated. High readings are intentional.

So many problems .... So little time

I have an 01 Dakota Sport and am having the
same issues. The needle sits all the way over to
the mark on the right before High. Sometimes it
goes down when idling sometimes it doesn't. I
had a new Oil Sending Unit put in and it did no
good. They took it off and put it on a gauge to
test the pressure. It was indeed running high. I
am at a loss as to what to do. A new lol pump is
NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS installed with labor.
I'm on a fixed income and can't afford THAT.

I see most these posts are about 10 years old and was
wonderimg what everyones out come was. I've had my Dakota
4.7 for 16 years now and just recently the oil presure gauge
sits at the higher end of the normal mark and drops down to 40
(middle) at idle. Should I be concern or have we come to a
conclusion that this is normal?

My 99 Dakota has run around 80psi on
oil pressure since I bought it used
in 01. Recently it dropped to 40psi.
Do I need to be concerned. Oil
leaking somewhere only occasionally.
