I have a 2000 Dakota, I was checking all the suspension and i noticed the ball joints didnt have grease fittings. I was later told that in order to fix the ball joints on it i would have to get the upper and lower control arms replaced too. Is this true or am i bein scammed?

Yes, what you were told is true. The ball joints are riveted on instead of bolted.
There are many post's in here about the junk ball joints.

You do not have to replace the upper or lower control arm. Moog makes replacement ball joints for the upper (at least for my '98). They come with bolts instead of rivets. The lower ball joints are replaceable as well but require some more effort. You will probably have to heat them up with a torch and smack them out. Moog makes replacements for those as well. I've changed both on my '98, not sure what's different on the 2000.

They don't make them for the 2000+'s

I think .. I can't remember now I had it all written down but I can't find any info anymore.

I know that they don't for my 01.

Call Summit Racing they are an authorized distributor for Moog. They can order any one you need. Also check the local parts houses.

O'reilly auto parts on line has moog parts also to order.

Check them out

hi everyone just to let everyone know i've just replaced my upper and lower balljoints with moogs. i have a 2000 dakota quad cab 4x2 3.9l . i used the part #'s for the 1999 dakota. they fit great. i had called summit racing they said their catalog only went up to the 1999 model's. gave me the phone # for the moog tech rep. he told me the same thing. no part#'s for the 2000-2002's yet. said the front office was aware of the problem. the only mod i had to was replace the upper balljoint's hardware with 3/8" grade 8 bolts, nuts and lockwashers. did not like the moogs little stuff. the lowers balljoint hardware is ok- big stuff. hope this helps don
