Subject: Power seat brackets seem loose

Message:
Does anyone else have this problem? It feels like the bolts are loose on my `02 drivers seat every time I stop and start at a light or stopsign. And no I`m not going to just start running the signs!
It`s getting worse every week. I`ve checked the bolts and it seems like it`s in the seat track itself.Really don`t want to waste my time taking it to the dealer if it`s a quick fix.
One more thing , with it being hot lately and running the A/C , when I stop after using the air cond. the water drips down onto the hot exhaust pipe and makes a horrible popping sound! It`s got the 4.7 motor in it if it matters. My old `99 had the 5.2 and didn`t do this...man it`s driving me crazy.I`m thinking about making a shield to divert the dripping H2O? Any ideas?

My power seat does the same thing but it only does it on hard accelartion and hard braking. It catches me off guard sometimes and feels like I'm gonna fly back. I'm pretty sure its in the mechanism but I'm not possitive.
As for the water, it should be coming out of a tube and I would think you could move that tube.

Thanks Corey,
It just bothers me that my new 28K$ truck has such an annoying problem , being that it`s so new. It wasn`t always there , guess I`ll see what the dealer has to say.
The water I was refering to , and I should have been more specific , is the condensation that builds up around the ref. canister then drips onto the ground (on all other veh. Ive had anyway) without hitting anything.
Again thanks for your input , atleast I`m not alone in my pwr. seat problem (sorry to hear yours does it though).

I just had this problem fixed! I have a 99 dak.
It is the seat adjuster! I took it to the dealer and the broke the old one when they took it off and put the new one on. It was wrong part! I ended up leaving my truck at that dealer for a week and a half!!!

I have a 2000 Dakota SLT that has a similar annoyance with the driver side power seat. Does anyone know if the dealers have been fixing these? I heard that the fullsize Rams have a TSB on this but I can't dig up anything on the Dakota. My truck is now under the dealer purchased extended warranty (76,000 miles on truck) and I really don't want to spend $100 bucks on a the deductible. Living in Southern California I get a constant rocking sensation on certain concrete freeways during rush hour.... and it drives me crazy!

Thanks,

MY power seat is shaky too. There is a point where it is less noticeable but still there, kinda defeats it`s purpose though.

Well I read through this thread and did a search looking for others with a loose driver’s seat problem hoping for a solution. I can tell you I noticed my seat "creaking" and felt it wasn't safe. I took it to the my Dodge dealer in Naperville IL. It actually took 5 different visits to finally get it resolved. 1st the ordered the tracks for a manual seat. So after another trip they replaced the tracks. Did not solve the creak. Back again, this time they ordered a back frame. Still had the noise.
Finally after getting the service manager involved I was able to have the entire seat replaced. This only after they tried again to piece fix it. About a month later I noticed that the seat felt as though the mounting bolts were loose. So again I paid a visit. The service tech and the manager said the rocking was "normal". I asked them to at least check it out to make sure the bolts weren't loose. I thought that was odd that I had to ask them to check the mounting bolts.
When I bought this truck I loved it. It was fairly powerful, had all the options I wanted. I wasn't happy about the crappy mileage I was getting. This was the first Chrysler product I've ever owned and it will be the last.

The funny part was I was sent a Special customer card to test drive the new Magnum. When I talked to the sales person I told him about my prior experience with the service dept and he said that the dealership was under new management for the last 8 months and the service had been completely revamped. When I told him this took place within the last 2 months he just looked at me and didn't have an answer! Needless to say Dodge is not on my next truck list.

Have a 2004 4 door wih power seat. Seat has been moving since I bought it. Manufacturers rep has looked at it twice. Stock answer is that's the way it is and has had no other complaints. Therefore live with it. A 2002 Chrysler Concorde had same problem. Also have Torque converter shudder and squealing brakes on the Dakota. I refuse to purchase another Chrysler or Dodge product and I refuse to purchase from this dealer again. I'm convinced that the Chrysler family of companies are incapable of making a quality vehicle. It's too bad, as the Dakota otherwise matches up well with my truck requirements.

My 2004's driver seat frame just broke a coupla hours ago when I went out for some food.
Solid as a rock until then.
My seat now tilts back without using the switches.
Still under warranty, though, so Dodge gets to fix it on their dime.

My '04 Dakota CC did the same thing since it was new 6 months ago. The seat would rock and creak, especially over bumps and when stopping. At the first visit, the tech said he couldn't find anything, but they tightened the seat track anyway.

So, a few months later I took the truck back in again. This time the tech took several minutes moving the seat back and forth and feeling it rock. He diagnosed the problem as a bad seat adjuster (which has been mentioned in earlier posts). The part came in and and the dealer replaced the seat adjuster yesterday. My seat now seems completely fixed. The quality of service is highly dependent on the writer and the tech. If you get a good one who is willing to properly diagnose the problem, usually it will get fixed.

Good luck with the new seat adjuster. The dealer replaced mine on the 04 when the truck had 480 miles on it. The fix lasted about one week and now the movement is bad and getting worse. Now, because the seat adjuster didn't permanently fix the problem, they won't put on another and they have no other solution.

I have a 2002 dakota, the drives seat stemmed to be loose
also. What it turned out to be is a broken bracket. The
problem is after 10 years they stop making parts for that year
truck. It's been wielded twice. I've been looking for a used
bracket for 18 months. I was told good luck finding one. This
is a common problem with this truck.
