Subject: MILs, TSBs, and Bad Dealer Service!

Yah, I'm a little pissed!

I get a 0422 MIL, Evaporative System - Leak, gas cap was and always is, on tight...reset the pcm

Within a couple starts, get another MIL, this time a 0455: another form of Evaporative System - Leak

See above re: gas cap

I drop off the DAK for service, tell them about the above, and the gas cap is on tight!

Couple hours later, I find 3 TSBs for this:

8-009-01 MAR 01 EVAP System - Leak Detection Pump

25-004-01 MAY 01 Evaporative System - Leak & DTC Diagnostics

11-002-01 SEP 01 Evaporator Drain/Exhaust - Hissing Sound

Truck was built 4/12/01, at least two TSBs look like they apply for my 4.7 engine

I go to call the service dept as a F.Y.I. re the TSBs and they get pissed saying they know how to check open TSBs...I tell them I'm not being a know it all, or busting anyone's chops, just telling them there are TSBs out there and I don't have a loose gas cap.

Go to pick up the truck, NTF, written up as a loose gas cap and I say what the F*** didn't I tell you over the phone that the gas cap is NOT LOOSE!...they say no TSBs exist for my MILs and the flowchart they followed shows the gas cap as the problem for the 'large leak'

Well, I start the truck up this morning, and sh*t, another 0455 MIL.

What should I do? I've already bitched and moaned to the Service Dept mgr that I want one stop shopping next time I'm in and want it fixed then and there without some crap about a part having to be ordered (they claim it could be loose hose, maybe the pump, I say why didn't that get checked out the first time...dah, no reply)

Are these people idiots or what? Really, what can I do to force the issue to get this fixed on just one visit? They are the closest dealer by 30 miles and have always serviced my truck with a smile and no problems in the past.

Thanks for letting me (and my Evaporative System) vent!

BTW, can I cause any engine damage driving around like this till the problem is resolved?

I had the exact same problems as you I took it in 6 times except they flashed my computer and the MIL still came back....I was so pissed I searched and searched for Chrysler Executives email addresses and I was sucessful.....within a day of writing a nasty gram to all executives at the dealer and to Chrysler execs. My truck was picked up at my office and they left me a loaner Durango. A day later I went to the dealer they told me it was the gas cap I said I didn't belive him...he took me into the shop and hooked up a Evaporative system leak detecter machine...basically a smoke machine....my old gas cap DID leak...they put a new one on and only two days into the test but no MIL code yet....the dealer was pretty nervous as they have to send the part to Chrysler in Detroit...there is an investigation now they fear that the gas caps could be faulty....write to everyone you can at the dealership it is your gas cap you need to have a new one installed...make them show you the test with the smoke machine....I could not believe my eyes something so siple I was just pissed becuase they kept telling me it was my fault for leaving the cap loose it was not loose it was defective......hope this helps let me know how it works out....i had the exact same MIL codes...sometimes in the morning you can smell heavy gas fumes.....

Same exact problems here. I was told that my gas cap is loose a lot of times. My question is, after they installed the new gas cap did the MIL's stop showing? Thanks for the info.
