I have a problem that occurs at long intervals. I first encountered it after driving all day. When I started my 94 Dakota and turned on the headlights the warning buzzer went off and the guages went crazy. I eventually discovered if I dimmed the instruments all the way down the buzzer would stop. Other times I will be driving when I notice my oil, temp and fuel guages reading high and the ammeter reading low. When this happens and I turn on the headlights the buzzer will go off. And sometimes using the turn signal causes the guages to bounce including the tach. Replacing the headlight switch didn't seem to accomplish anything.

Had the same problem found it was in the fan switch. It only did it after defrost was on for awhile got tired of beating dash to make things "normal" again.Replaced switch and made a heat insulator so the defrost hose is away from switch.NO more problem

Could be something isn't grounded. The electricity may be flowing wherever it can to get to a ground.

Had the same thing with my 95 CC. I sold it before I figured out what it was. The funny part was beating on the dash would fix it. That sort of hinted at a ground problem, but I never was able to trace it. It was VERY intermittent: it would never happen when I could do something about it (other than bash on the top of the dash).

If any one solves the problem, I would be interested in the solution. I thought I was the only one with that weird problem.

I have the same prob with my 94 Plymouth Sundance. Beat on dash, all is OK. Usually happens at start up or when I turn on the headlights. Still beating, still works.
My 94 Dakota's low-beams quit on me yesterday. Last time this happened (two months ago), I got a smelly warning, then lights out! This is my second switch, must be a short?! I really hate to take apart that blasted dash again.

No Backup lights.

My 94 Sundance has a similar prob. I replaced a burned bulb, and then both lights stopped lighting! Fuse is OK. Don't know what to rip apart/locate possible short. Could my car have an external switch? Two months ago, I had the tranny re-built. Reverse lights worked fine before repairs.
Thanks in advance for any help, Mike.
