Hey, i have a 99 Dakota Club Cab 5.2 sport and i bought my truck about three months ago I was worried about the rearend slammin into reverse too I told the dealer to take it in the shop and look at it, they said it was fine and gave me an extended warranty on the drive train to ease my mind. I also called the guy who owned the truck before me he said that it had done it ever since he bought it brand new. so maybe its just supposed to be like that. it hasn't been givin me any problems so far.

I have a 99 5.2 4x4 and my truck has been doing this ever since I've purchased it. Sounds like the transmission is going to drop off from underneath the truck when it happens but it's still there and works like it always has. I just recently had the transmission fluid changed and no adjustments were needed at 73000 miles but still clunks.

Mine slams then kind of squeaks like I just ran over a bird or something. But I was at the store and heard one do the same thing pulling out of a parking spot. Go figure?

On 99 & 2ooo 42&44re trans the rev. check ball is steel and needs to be replaced with a soft rubber ball and seperater plate. Also the low rev. band has a revised adjustment spec. I have performed this repair several times with no comebacks.

I have a 99 dodge 4x4, 5.2L with 74,500 miles on it and my truck has always made this same clunking noise when I put it in reverse. It's really bad in the morning when it's still cool. If anyone figures out a fix for this or knows of some recall that I don't know of please email me and let me know. billrosenfelt@aol.com

Thanks

Dodge dealer just notified me they would need to replace install a valve body check ball and separator plate on my 99 Dakota (with 46k miles).
Looks like this problem is a significant enough "design/engineer" flaw that there should be a recall on it.
Has anyone had Dodge make this repair "gratis" or with some partial assistance? Or do you just eat it?

thanks,

I have a 97 CC 4X4 SLT and it also has made the infamous clunk into reverse, sometimes bad and sometimes not at all. Still works after 150,000km, but if anyone knows about Dodge doing a recall I'd like to know.

Since there is a TSB on this issue, can I take my '99 Dakota to any Dodge dealer and have it repaired free of charge?

the deal with tsb's are they are just notification of a design change or an engineering fix for a particular condition.if your vehicle is still under the factory time and mialage requirements then the repair is no charge. If your out of warrenty , you would be responsible for the repair. If it goes to a full recall, you would be notified in the mail, and if youve paid for the repair, you could file for reimbursement.
(with your reciepte) then it would be no charge. hope this helps.

I brought my 2001 Dak to the dealer a while back about this problem, and they said it was the rear springs loading and unloading, and they threw some white grease in there to "quiet them down" Still does it alot. assholios piss me off. I got 4000 more miles till 15000, having the tranny flushed, and I will have them check the bands and everything else out while they are in the area!

I have 46,000 miles and replaced my belts at 26,000 and they are starting to squeak again. Is there anything else i should look out for. oh yeah and my trans is slipping shifting into 2nd gear.
