My Dak stalled on me yesterday while stopping at a stop sign. I had my PCM updated about 4 months ago, and it was good since then (until yesterday).

Anyone else still having this problem after the pcm update ??

I also have a 2000 4.7 CC Sport and I also had to "new software" programmed into my PCM after multiple occassions of stumbling idle at a stop light and every so often would stall out without notice. They also took my Throttle body off and cleaned it as well as reprogramming the PCM. That might help you--having them clean the TB. And it might not. Mine hasn't stalled since the PCM was updated but it still has "stumbled" occasionally at a red light. Oh yeah, your idle should be about 100 rpm higher after it's warmed up since they did the reprogramming. I don't know if the stumbling idle will ever be cured.

I've had this problem before too. It took two trips to the dealership, within 2 weeks, to get it fixed. It was the idle air control module or something like that. That was the problem with mine, anyway.

Anyone know of an aftermarket computer chip available for 4.7L 2000 Dakota? I took mine to the dealer for poor idle quality, and off idle hesitation. Dealer said that Throttle body was dirty and they cleaned it under warranty, but it still runs the same. One hell of an engine otherwise.
I guess I will have to wait for the aftermarket to program this engine because Chrysler cant seem to get it right.
Let me know!!

I took mine back to the dealer several times back in 2000. They reflashed and then replaced the computer. At one point in the process, I received a phone call from a female engineer at DC asking about my case. She said that they were working on a solution and that the new software had to go through federal emissions testing. That was back around May of 2000. Haven't heard anything yet. Why have I waited so long and not pushed the issue? I love the truck and have gotten used to the "excessive idle search" as they call it. It has still stalled maybe twice in the past year or so. One of the first stalls was coming down the ramp from a parking garage. I almost ran a pedestrian over when I lost the steering and brakes. Try explaining to the police how your brand new truck stalled out. I am one.

Cleaning the throttle body solved my idle problems. The Speedteeks website has an excellent "Tips and Tricks" section that tells how to clean your TB and IAC. THe IAC was my main problem.

Yes there was a flash upgrade to the computer that became available, mine was done under warranty and cleared it up.

I have a 2000 4.7 Dakota, the dealer has a pcm on back order for this truck, we are leaving for a trip south. My question is will this cause damage to the truck by driving it until the part comes in. I can not get a yes or no from the dealer. Thank you Bob T.

My 2000 Dakota was diagnosed with multicylinder misfires - new software was to correct the problem. It was recommended that the throttle body be serviced at the same time - done. Since then, a new problem. On 'cold start' it intermittently will not run in the idle position. It starts alright, but dies immediately. If you start it again and hold your foot on the accelerator steadily for about 5 minutes, it reluctantly continues to run. Once warm, no further problems. Days later - same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

There was also some sort of service bulletin/campaign thing about the oil fill tube. With the "bad" one it whipped the oil causing foam and running problems. Call the dealer to check more facts.

I had the same issue and it was a sensor that needed to be replaced, although I can't remember which one.

Thanks for your replies. The truck was back in the shop - hoping the dealer could diagnose the problem. However, the on board computer did not register any fault codes and it would not stall for them. It did stall for me the very next day. Dealer says that until it stalls while in the shop it is our problem. Very frustrating!

my 96 dakota 5.2 does all of these things. it stalls, stumbles, eratic idling, pops the check engine light for the o2 sensor, etc. it took awhile for me to figure it out but what it ended up being was no to just spray carb cleaner on my thottle body but spray it on a rag and rub right where my butterflies meet my TB ,there is always a carbon build up there and it was choking the motor out. one tell tale sign is when you start it up in the morning and you have to hold the thottle to keep it running for a few minutes or it will just stall . i clean my TB about every oil change ,3000 miles . i found that if i didnt that at around 5000 miles it do it again. i hope this helps!

I have a 2002 dodge dakota and it stalled . I took it in and they replaced the IAC motor and it has not stalled yet but the idle is at 500 rpms and it feels like it's going to stall. I have taken it in 3 times so far and they can not figure out the problem. It's very fustrating as my truck was never like this. They clean the TB and gave me new spark plugs and still idles rough. Only when I'm at a stop and the truck is in drive. I only have 33,300 miles on my truck. I take it back in on Thursday they are putting a team on it. If I find out anything I will let you all know.

I bought my Dakota in 04 with 42k. Beautiful, well maintained truck. Truck started surging @ idel,600 to 1500 rpm. Dealer cleaned out intake and cured problem. In 05 started surge again and also had slight rpm jumps @ 35-40 mph.Same dealer replaced ecm and cured problem. Now it is 07 with 72k and problem is back now with previous problems but now died twice. New dealer has now determined defective tps. I have not yet "OK'EDY" repair.Any comments?

Right on top of the engine. Follow the air tube to where it goes into the engine. Its in that area.
