Message:
I've just installed a Sony Explode 4 Channel Amp into the back of my '98 Dakota SLT Ext Cab however the amp is lying on the back floor. I need a place to mount the amp neatly and nicely.
I've already taken up one of the back seats with a 12" Kaption Audio Subwoofer & enclosure so I don't mind losing the space in that seat, however I'd like the amp bolted down and out of the way. Furthermore, the amp does not fit under the seat because it's too high for the seat to properly slide back once it's there. Anyone have any custom idea's of where they put their amps neatly and nicely. I'm sure I could destroy half the toolkit box but I'm wondering what exactly I should do it it.. Any ideas?

Not a bad idea.. Since I posted this message I've thought about removing the centre console and building an insulated centre console piece to nicely hide the amp and clear up some space in the back seat. Problem is that the explode amp has a weird shape to it with it's fins and maybe hard to mount in a tight space. Ah, well, I'll keep all posted.

Yeah, the MTX thunderforms were a thought at one point but I didn't want to go with the MTX subs so the box wasn't too much of an option. Also, I wanted a ported/sealed combination and the thunderforms wouldn't do it but it is definitely a slick box.
I saw that you mounted the capacitor and speakers in the back panel and I assume made a flush background out of vinyl or painted something. Looks pretty darn slick I must admit. Maybe I'll take a peek at putting some 6x9's back there.

Mount it under the driver side rear seat, in the storage compartment. I have a 98 R/T with a Alpine MRV-F540 installed under that seat. This is a BIG amp. (Foot Print (WxHxD)in : 11-13/16” x 2-3/8” x 16-1/2”) I get no heat issues, and it looks great. I did have to cut part of the bottom out of the plastic inside the storage compartment. I also did not use the stock plastic compartment cover, I cut a coustom cover out of wood, with top of amp showing through (Looks awsome!), and covered in black leather. You cannot tell it's there without lifting the seat.

You almost read my mind .. I rewired the stereo tonight because I bought another amp for my Sub, an Alpine MRD-M300 and wanted to mount it there. Found out that cutting out that plastic is a real pain though and couldn't get it out so the amp is sitting on the rear seat.

What'd you do to cut it out? It's only got about one inch of height from the frame.

I am running into the same issues, but my amp is 12" by 24" and 3.5" tall. If any of you have suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Get memphis amps, they fit under the seats with plenty of room to spare. as long as you put your seats up, everything is hidden.

I also have 2 sets of mb quart highs (running off a memphis 2004), and a thunderform (ordering my amp soon) all out of an alpine 7894. sounds good as shiit.

www.nexxon.com or ebay are probly the best place to get the memphis amps.
