Subject: Best Speaker/Bass EVER???
IP: Logged

Message:
So, if no limit on space, or money, or anything for that matter... What speakers ARE the best? What subwoofer just totally blows the rest of them away. Ok, so you can gut a car and fill it with nothing BUT speakers and it's not drive-able, and yes that is loud as sh!t... I'm not talking that, I'm saying what speaker ALONE is the loudest, best sounding, bass thumping woofer... given the perfect box or whatever it would take to get it to sound the way it needs to? I guess let me know the best speaker, componant, woofer, subwoofer, ect ect ect... I just want to know. S~

(see, the way I see it, people are going about it all wrong. You shouldn't be asking what will fit, you should be saying: "how do I get this in there?" RIGHT?)

Everybody has their own personal favorite, and of course everyone thinks that everybody else is usually wrong. That being said, my answer would be an MTX RFL 15, or the Audiobahn 34" sub. Both are loud as hell and pound serious bass. The 34" sub may not be very easy to cram in a DAK, and if money is no problem, the MTX RFL. Of course the 34 is $5,000 and the 15" RFL is $1,000.

You can buy those. I've seen them at a few different places. Not sure about the amps. The only one I heard was from an Audiobahn rep that was driving it with two rack mount Audibahn amps. I think it handles something like 5000 Watts RMS. May be off on that number. You're right, you can feel the bass.

so at a dollar$ a watt.. we're talking a cool "G" for something you can't even hear, yet takes up asphault when you drive by? OR, you can't even drive, because I would imagine that it would cause some serious bad things in your head, so driving would probably be out.....

WELL!!! SO I have seen one of the biggest... what about just damn good AND loud?

(btw, I'm not blowing you off, I'm just leaving space for others to join in, know what I'm sayin?)

but, as far as that goes(being that I'm looking for something that I can put in my QCw/tanneau, and still KEEP MY TANNEAU....sorry) that is damn good, damn expensive, and damn loud... so you take the cake so far :)

(didn't cerwin vega make something "god aweful big as f(_)ck" like that a few years ago???)

what is the story behind "strokers" while I'm on the subject?

I know I'm rambling, but you should be able to keep up "ya'll" :)

I have a 99' Dakota RC with a cut through. I have 6 12" MTX 8000 series subs. I wanted 15" subs but they won't fit. Bed is too shallow. These are pushed by 3 MTX 8100d 1500 Watt amps. I have 3 1500 CCA deep cycle batteries, all 0 Guage wiring, kenwood excelon components pushed by a MTX 4244 500 watt amp. And to top it off a pioneer 9300 head unit and a pioneer 12 disk changer. I go to competitions, last one being Pegion Forge Tenn. I have to replace the rear window with Lexan durning competition so it will not break. I love the sound quality of the woffers. This is just MY openion of a good set up.

Just a question but how do you have 6 12's and even have rear glass still? A lower cut through with all the subs firing up at the tanneu cover or all facing the middle? At any rate, either of these is going to cause a lot of cancellation and by using said lexan in rear window puts you in extreme class and I'm sure you were/would be annhialated.

That being said, my picks for the best speaker regaurdless of space are
Digital Designs 9917
Shocker Audio extreme 2 18
Resonant Engineering XXX 18
Concept CSP 18
Cerwin Vega Stroker 18

Yes the stroker has been basically unchanged for about 30 years. Originally used as studio/cinema type speakers they were all single 4 ohm voice coils. Then in the early to mid 90's someone got the bright idea to put them in a car. They then started making them DVC's.

Those audiobahns are a waste and rfl's have such a high frequency response they aren't really any good for a daily driver. If I'm not mistaken they are for somewhere in the 60hz region.

SlantyShanty, where you from? I might be able to recomend a shop to visit or even someone who's car you could see to hear one of my recomended speakers or at least something similar. I don't know how loud of a system you've heard but a simple cut-through with 4 dd 9515's and 8 jbl 1200.1's would put you in the mid 160's at about 45hz. That is plenty loud enough to make you def and give you blurred vision.

honestly... I am stationed at camp lejeune, nc. I own a QC, and I have never owned a car/truck before this, that didn't have some kind of system in it. Once I had an 89 escort with 2 500watt PA 3ways in the hatch powered by an optimus(radio shack)amp that I bought off of a guy at work for a 30sac. And then there was the 85 S10. I loved that truck. I had 2 Gem Sound 10's, two I dunno... super pizo tweets and two f(_)ck if I know mid's... all I know is I had a HiFonics Generation XI Thor and it would rattle my brain driving down the road. I know the speakers weren't worth a sh!t, but it was loud as all kinds of F(_)CK!!! and I couldn't blow them as hard as I tried????

Now all I want is something to be pretty damn... no really I want it to be DAMN LOUD in a QC, but not take up my rear seats... like every other QC owner, but I have a tanneau, AND I really don't haul anything in my trucky, so I guess I got the best of both worlds??? Anyway, I am willing to do something drastic (like a cut-through) as long as I don't lose people space. ESPECIALLY, when I can say "see nothing? HEAR EVERYTHING!!!" (know what I'm saying?)

I like joe's setup... but I am going to be pushing bass THROUGH seats mounted to the rear wall (QC owners know what I'm talking about for sure) so I want a lot of bass, but I plan to add some comps as well.

So I know you SHOULDN'T, but I plan to have 2 sets of comps (a set for the front and a set for the rear) and a damn good bit of funk in the trunk, and that's pretty much it.

I know I COULD fill the back end with all kinds of fun, but for real...........

Well I've never been inside a qc but if it's like many others the seat backs will fold down... If so piece of cake. One thing I recomend though is to cut out more so that the subs and port all fire directly into the cab. I live in NC, but for some reason don't know where camp lejuene is. What major city are you near? I live in southern pines/pinehurst area. 20 minutes east of ft. bragg

The Audiobahn 34" woofer is more of a publicity woofer then anything. The SQ on a woofer that large would be very poor, and the SPL would also most likely be not so great. A 34" woofer has soo much moving mass that it would take ALOT of power to make it loud, but when you push ALOT of power to it it would most likely break it.

I run 2 Shocker Audio Signature Series 18's in a 25 cubic foot enclosure, powered by 8 Ample Audio Exonic 1500 Watt amplifiers. It's not in my Dakota, its in a Caravan.

I would recomend Shocker, they are made for SPL, but the sound great too and are very durable.

Tony S,
What do you have? ID max? If so there is no reason you cant make it sound just as good if not better than a W7.Maybe you need a better box. I ran a single max 12 for about a year. Prolly oneof the best single sub setup ive heard, including single W7's.

And i were going to pick one sub??? Ithink i want to give one of these a try

Unless you are at a "certified" event chances are the mics you all get on are all different. Ask any "seasoned" car audio competitor and they will tell you, they all read differently.

That is one of the most ingnorant statements ive ever heard.....
Strokers...overrated...you try and find a speaker that was desinged over 15 years ago that will hang with todays top subs. If you had any clue how to make a box those strokers would kill your XXX's.
JL's aren't good for anything but SQ???
What are the desinged for???? Then they do a damn good job at what they are made to do...
Oh and by the way. I hit 158.6 with my to "SQ" JL 15W3's, tuned to 28.

I am a installer from jamaican for the lat 19 years.

Hans down the RE XXX is one of the best subwoofers ever made. But subs are totally dependent on a few variables.

1. Power requirements.
2. Application.

My opinion about the 13w7 on my test bench using a MMats D100HC, the 13w7 produces notes 20-40htz pretty well, but over 45htz it started getting saggy.

I think you pay alot of money for the w7 because of the design of the sub.
I then put the RE XXX dual 2 with the Same MMats D100HC in the same box and it gave me a better response at 30-60htz, and it was more efficient.

THe Juggernaut is for spl, MMats dont recommend this sub for everyday driving. It was designed to play one notes. Not music.

The stroker is a very very good sub seeing that it was designed years ago but yet still can compete with the subs of today. Its loud but not linear. ANd by that i mean it doesnt remain linear as the cone moves up and down.

The Brahmas are very linear sub, as a matter of fact the Xbl^2 design which is used by RE XXX, as i said above its about application, on my test bench it perform very well and remain linear.

The IDMAX 12 v3, when i installed this sub, for a second i had to go back and forward between it and the RE XXX to listen and see which sounded better and more linear, the IDMAX is more linear than the RE XXX at 35htz but like the W7 gets saggy at 60Htz.

Thats my opinion.
Which i am entitled to.
