I had my sony Minidisc player in my last car, took it out... and 4 months later it doesn't work... well, the FM/AM works but the minidisk player doesn't and neither does the CD chnger... this sux... now i'm gonna have to go buy another sony so that my wiring harness will work and so i can use my CD changer... just wanted to vent and say use Kenwood... i've never had probs with them. I've had too many things from Sony either be good and then break or just middle of the road.

Ya i agree Sony is $hit. bought one of there decks and brought it back. Now i got a pioneer PH6400 and it kicks ass. works great with my earthquake amp and subs.

Earthquake---cool. i don't see many people with em' anymore. Which one do you have? I've got a pa-2300 that is just beging to be hooked up.
I hate to say it but I've always been happy with sony, but even good companies can go bad.....I think pioneer makes a great sub, right up there with JL. They have sweet SPL/Watt ratios...

DrunkAce- I have the Earthquake Powerhouse 300.1 600Wt. its an amazing amp. have it pushin 2 12" sony explodes. I have 4 of them and already i have blown 1 of them. It doesnt even get warm when it pumps them. Im buyin Earthquake subs very soon. i know it will pump them no prob. This amp would probably push my buddys 2 15" rockford fosgates. Ill have to test it one day.

I have the sony MX-3001SXD pushing 2 Earthquakes in my thunderform. It hits good, and I have had no problems yet.

Anybody have a problem with a Sony deck that stays on all the time, even without the key? I hooked up all the wiring right with the harness and have tried two different decks, and both don't turn off with the key. Any input would be appreciated.

Jimbo.....It sound like the only way that would happen is if your positive and hot wires are reversed....usually yellow and red. One is always hot while the other only turns on with ingition.

Hey open up that Pioneer or Kenwood deck and look at
the circuit boards...they are all made by Sony, it is not
just the boards, but all the components. Blaupunkt is
the only major stereo brand which does not use Sony
components.
I didn't beleive it either until the 3rd trip to have my
Kenwood CD player fixed and the tech showed me the
insides of all of the other units.

Ok sony does suck, and Blaupunkt might make there own stuff but they arent much better. FYI Dakotaguy alpine makes there own stuff so does eclipse.
I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what do Chinese mothers use? Toothpicks?

I have heard of too many problems with Sony since they came out with their new Xplod line a while back. All the sony owners here, dont take offense to it. I personally dont use sony....I think their xplod line is just a lot of flashy looks that make people want to buy it and they say that its awesome. My friend has an xplod deck in his Explorer and it always jams on him. I think some of the best decks out there are the brands Tinybaum mentioned...Eclipse and Apline. Along with Pioneer decks, I like their prices better. _KrEzEr_

sony can kiss my Azz in car stero, i would recomend stock before i would tell my friends to get a sony....but i do own a sony camcorder and i love it. note to sony: stop car stero, home theater and camcorders, keep it up.

Well I am gonna age myself here, but back in the day, I had a Sony tape deck, detach face, all the bells and whistles. THe head unit was awesome, but like so many large companies, pehaps the quality went down over time. My sony tape deck worked awesome, until my mom threw my head unit in my dirty clothes, and I stepped on it, that sucked. Oh well, I have a JVC fold down face unit now, hasn't skipped yet, even when I ditched my dak a few weeks ago. See ya

I think ALpine makes some of the best HUs and if you want a good MP3 Player at a good price KD-SH99 (JVC) is good Check out mine http://www.sounddomain.com/id/axmiller
As for sony on my first install (6years ago) I had a sony HU that you would have to turn it on and off to get the internal amp to work :( I had it running to 2 KICKER COMP. 10s and a Alpine V12 It hit really hard but that was about it. I would just stay away from sony unless its the Mobile ES stuff. You can shine up a turd but you still just have a turd.

i know wut ya'll mean. i got a Head unit from sony and the whole faceplate stopped working one day. i can hear the annyoing beeping when i turn car on and off. it even lights up but it just doesnt respond to any buttons. and the damn thing wasnt under warranty. i got pissed. i ended up just buying a new kenwood. now that stupid sony sits on my desk and i stare at it with anger

Sony invented the cd/player.....it's all sony cd parts still today. The base sony is just the same(Alpine too) as all the other stuff out there....all made in tiwan or china(parts inside anyway)
Things keep getting better but the quality keeps falling. It's all flash now a days.
You have to spend big bucks to get halfway decent performance---I opt for the ES Sony by way of no other better option. Sony is still on top(most of the time) but, what really has to be asked is on top of what kind of flashly junk?
Sony is crap----but so is everthing else

i have had 5 pioneer decks and none of them have had ANY issues... wait.. did my stereo just go out :)
i always buy the top to near top.. last 3 units have been awesome with the latest being the deh-p8400 that plays mp3s. my only complaint - the song starts playing before the track title comes up. by the time i hear it, i don't need to SEE a title anymore, i already know the title.
my old setup in my car was the best - a cpu with a video out card and dvd run to a 6" LCD and run with a touchpad mouse and wireless keyboard. i would run it into the pioneer HU and even had a matching winamp skin for it. it was DA BOMB.

Well i see you are all totally against SONY apart from 1% well if SONY is so bad well why do they stay up there with the best of them like SONY have u ever heard off a FAULT well i reckon if i started a STUPID pioneer CRAP or STUPID alpine CRAP ect.. you would get people saying how wonderful SONY is and other brands but just because u got a DUD MP3 player or a DUD CD Player that doesn't mean SONY suck maybe when u installed it you wired it wrong and fuked it from the word GO my mate did it 3 times before he learn't if you cant do it call in the EXPERTS so u sit there and BLAB cause its not SONY's fault just because the product is INVENTED by SONY doesn't mean the parts in side are SONY so remember that.

Sad but true, i had a sony, but the pos buttons were getting stuck and the memory buttons 4 and 5 were pushed in where i lost 2 memory channels. then the pos sony deck makes it's own decisions on how loud i should have the radio... the volume would just go up for no reason. and u had to mash the hell outta the source button. now i have a Kenwood z828 mp3 and i havent had a single problem with it.

I just got rid of my sony head unit in my last truck...... It was like the first series of CD players like ...a-ka-jillion years ago. It played, volumn worked, didn't have to warm up, it was a cd player that still worked after a-ka-jillion years. Just proves that sony did make decent stuff. My dak is runnig the first series of xplode amps , a 5 channel and a 1400 wt "surfboard" , no complaints. My sub amp handles 2 ohms with no problem and the 5 channel works great for what i need it to do. Will admit the Sony HU arn't the greatest but I havn't had a reason to complain yet
You know one HU I haven't heard yet is Clarion. Thats what I'm running abd will probably be the next. Pioneer is over-rated

I agree with bigtymer old sony es stuff is hard to beat I had the cdx c910 with optical out owned it for years and never had a problem, and it was the best sounding deck I've ever heard,but when you pay 1000 bucks for a head it better sound good.

Who would waste their money or time on Sony anyway. If you've been around car audio for very long then you should know what is good & what is junk. As I've said before do your homework & check the ratings on the equipment before you buy it & prices. Spend a little more now or a lot more later!!

stiinc, that is the same unit I have. I have yet to make that thing skip. It also plays cd's that are really scratched up that other cd player won't even think about playing.

yeah, I sure miss that thing, had to get rid of the system to convince the wife to let me buy the Dak...now I'm stuck with the s**t factory cd deck wont play half my cd-r's oh well maybe next year I'll reaserch a new head unit, for now I'm looking at a sweet deal on some thunderforms and some jl's to go with it

I would have to agree with most of you
that sony components such. I think just all car
audio that is sony is all crap. I don't care what
it is. I would never put any of that $h!t in my car.
All of my home stereo equipment in my room
is sony and I am very pleased with how it
sounds. I have had it for over two years and I
have not had even one problem. I think that
sony stuff for the house is the best , but they
can't do cars. Well they can, but there is a lot
of better manufacturers
