I really love my quad, but I have yet to come up with or hear of anyone that has... a way to add subs without totaly ripping the truck apart. I have looked into putting them behind the rear seats, and yes I wouldn't be able to lift them ever again, but that's really not a problem, I have a tanneau cover, so it's not that I need to be able to lift the seats. I just really wish dodge would have tought about us "big sterio liking people" and given us a little more room. The audio shop here in town said they would build me a box to hold 2 10's and an amp and a cap for about $450.00 ouch :( ouch I say again. But I really don't want 10's I would like 12's at least. But in order to do that you have to rip out the backs of the rear seats, and bend or cut the little wire bars off and that's a bit of trouble that I really don't WANT to have to do, but it looks as thought I may do it anyway. I know that sounds like a bit much bass back there, and some would say that the people that ride in the back might not like it, but that's not the question here. The question is: Has anyone come up with a better way to add big bass to their quad?

Hey Slanty,

I've got a 2002 quad cab and i've got 2 8" Illusion subs and a JL Audio 500/5 amp behind the rear seats. Yes, you are correct in the fact that the seats wont fold up anymore but, that is not an issue for me. Space is extremely tight back there and the only decent subs I could fit back there were the Illusions. You wont be able to fit 10 or 12's back there without major work. The 8's have a great low end but you cant really crank it and let the neighbors hear them if thats what your after.I would also love to install 10 or 12s but I dont want to go to the extreme to accomplish that, so I'm happy with what I've got. I dont know if that provided any useful info but, if you've got any concerns, post it.

slanty,
Have you had a chance to look at the "Quad Cab Sub Question" post? You may have and decided that wasn't enough for what you are looking for, but I think TonyC's solution is pretty good. (Two 8" in place of the front center seat and you keep the center console and back seat functionality, which is important to me anyway...) If you haven't, take a look he's got some pictures posted on his web site.

I was looking at the pics of the two 8"ers in the armrest, and I was thinking, if you could make a box to fit there to fit two 8's, why not make a bigger (longer) box? So 3 weekends and few cases a beer later I have come up with almost all the dimentions to build a box (rather 5 boxes in one) that will hold one 12", two 10", and two 8" solo baric's... that will fit under the armrest. It is really nothing more than a few of the ideas put together, that I have read on all the posts here and there. The 12 fits just between the rear seats and the armrest, the two 10"s under the armrest, and the two 8"s are on either side of the box pointing out toward the driver and passenger. (the 10"s and 12"s are downfiring) Now the amps are probably going to be mounted behiond the rear seats, I know there is enough room for most of that back there. But the thing I was wondering is, has anyone tried to make a latch to replace the hook that holds the rear seats to the back wall. One that could easily (or easier) be lifted so you could fold the rear seats down. I know it works, because I was in a hurry one night and bolted the seat back in without hooking it to the back wall, and it just folded up and down like any other seat. Now the only thing is what to cover the box with to make it look somewhat normal. You really don't lose any legroom in the back or front, unless you are used to having 6 people in your dak. You can still fold the back seats up, unless you put amps behind them... which could easily be put under the drivers and passengers seats. You can still mount the armrest on top of it (what I am working on now) And there really isn't any hard angles to cut, unless you want to get fance with the 8"s (another part I'm stuck on) You could just make the front of the box square and point the 8"s toward your knees, being that you have to take the little plastic thing off of the floor... maybe make the plastic thing on top of the speaker box??? I think I may have solved my own problem??? All it took was me talking to myself, 'er to you? Any suggs? Tex~

Hey quadcabtexan,
Sounds like you're trying to shove 10 pounds of $hit in a 5 pound bag. I would love to see the pics when it's done. Be careful that you don't limit the air space required for each speaker. If you short change the size of the speaker box, your sound won't be as good. My speaker box was the minimum size and it sticks up higher than the original seat. You may run out of space real quick if you are trying to fit that many speakers in such a little area. I put the amps under each front seat. They stuck out of the back a little bit, so I built some metal covers for the backs of them and covered them with carpet. Now no one can kick or step on the back of the amps.
Good luck.

slanty shanty - should have thought of that before you bought the truck :( sorry, but it's like someone with a Civic complaining it can't tow or go off-road.

quadcabtexan - I agree with TonyC, all those speakers in the cab would be a mess and it would never sound "right".

From what I've gathered you could fit EIGHT 8" subs in the QC if you really wanted to without too many modifications. Four behind the backseats and four in a custom arm rest. Kicker L7 Solos fit in a TINY air space and pump if you can afford to power them.

Personally after ripping out the back seats of my Prelude Si and putting in SIX 10"s and well over 600 watts, I'm now VERY happy with a 300 watt system and a single 8" ...sometimes less is MORE.

Slanty Shanty - Based on your original message you said wanted atleast two 12"s and "big bass", so you got the answers.

Now if you want a manageable system - one that fits without tearing up your truck your looking at one or maybe two 8"s MAX, sorry man but that's all that is going to fit :( Trust me...

I spent a good 6 hours today installing my 220 watt amp, 12 disc CD Changer and DSP unit behind the seats of my QC - and those few items barely fit. However the rear seats (and the jack) are just like how they came from the factory with NO modifications. They still fold up and jack is still right where Dodge put it. I had to work AROUND the seats, jack, seat brackets, and cab exhaust vents (royal pain!). I was a major b!tch but the results are a completely hidden install that does interfere with anything.

In fact when the system is finished the only thing I'm going to "lose" is the floor space behind the center console and the rear cup holders since thats were my single Kicker 8" L5 sub is going. I'm actually still working on the plans and might be able to put the cup holder back in ;) but if not I can live without it.

I have one of the new 6 inch subs by Rockford Fosgate in my QC with a punch 100. It sounds pretty good and no one can see it. IT sits behind the rear seat. I had to remove the jack and put it on the other side though. It doesn't hit like my 5.0L Mustang with 4 Kicker 12s and 2800 watts but its not bad.

Maybe I don't use my truck to it's fullest, but why does everyone still want to raise their back seats? I don't think it creates all that much room when you do? Then again I have a tanneau cover, so maybe I'm taking something for granted? It would be a little differant if there was room under the seats to hide stuff, like in the CC's, but there's not... SO why lift the seats? Because you can? S~

I used an old Bazooka tube and the NEW Rockford 6 1/2 inch sub. I have a punch 100 running the sub. The rear seat doesn't fold but the tube fits in there perfect and sounds pretty good.

My 5.0L Mustang pounds. It has 4 Solobaric 12s that are run by two punch 200s. The front and rears are DDDrives with a punch 4080 running them.

Ok that piece of furry crap against the back wall (behind the back seats) Take that sh!t out, and you have MORE than enough room to put two truck boxes loaded with a 10" each and an amp and i would bet a cap as well. But you gotta cut the furry thing across the top (longways) and mount it back on the wall or you will see red metal when you put your seats back in. I don't have exact measurements, but I know the small seat box can't be wider than 15" and I wouldn't make it taller than 15" Bottom depth is about 7 1/2" and the top depth is about 3 - 3 1/2" It's a small box, but it can be done. Gettin me a sheet of MDF this week, and this weekend it's on. I'm going to try and get our digital camera from work and document this. If everything goes well. If not, well forget I said this, and someone should try and find a way to erase this post :) S~

All i know is it has 1 8" sub in it and the box is 16.5 inches wide and will fit behind the back seat. tthe one i got i got froma a tweeter store in mass and is didnt have a box. What i had to do to get it in was remove just theback cusion from the seat and it slid right in. it barely makes it but it does fit. if anyone wanta a picture or two let me know i can take some when i have some free time.

So I went to lowes this weekend and bought one of those black and decker (spl?) fire storm things. The one that turns into a drill/ screwdriver, jig saw, and a sander... WHAT A F(_)CK!/\/G PIECE OF SH!T!!!!! charged both batteries for well over 24 hours each (put them on friday afternoon, tried them sunday night) And I would say I got a good 4 minutes outta each battery. I bought the drill/piece of crap for $100. So this weekend was a total waste. Got some good pics of my truck and my friends black CC and my brothers Z28. So MAYBE just MAYBE I might have my work done next weekend, after I take this flamer, I mean "fire storm" back and buy the $25 plug in kind. I got yyour fire storm RIGHT HERE!!!

I really don't carry many people with me so what i did was get a bass box and put 2 12 inch punch HE2 subs sitting on top of the rear seats. only one person fits back there now. The subs are powered by a 2 channel punch 700s that was fit under the seat by making a hole in the carpet. Whenever several people are going to ride with me whoever doesn't fit sits in the back.

how would you go about making the hole to bolt the seat in? Just drill that biotch into the floor? I'm not knocking your idea, was actually thinking something like that myself. Only I wanted to find a way to put the same set of seats that are in the front and the armrest in the back but couldn't find a way to mount them to the floor easily. Found a set at a junkyard in town, all three pieces for $150.00. Sounds like a good deal to me, seats are suposed to be out of a 2000QC that got totaled with the sticker still in the window? either way, $150 is worth it just for the challange, even if it doesn't work out S~

I have looked on ebay, it is just a hit or miss if you happen to find one, i have not researched the junkyards either. But your right, $150 is not much just to screw around and try it and see if you can bolt it in. I have also thought about buying some racing bucket seats for the front and then transfer the front seats to the back, but then you lose the fold up ability.

I already have two small boxes that will hold a 10" a piece, that will fit back there. It is tight, but they fit. But I don't want 10's, I have had 12's and even a 15... I can't go back to 10's...
