Subject: Kicker Solo-baric 8?

Anyone have a Kicker Solo-Baric 8" sub? I'm thinking of trying to get one underneath the back seat in my 01 4.7 CC. How does it sound? Where did you put the amp? I'm trying to not lose any seating in the back, if possible. Thanks for the help.
Greg

I put a Solo-10 behind the passengers seat and it didn't take up very much room at all.

It's purely an SPL sub, great for just bass and rap and such, I don't recommend it though if you listen to say, techno, punk/ska, something like that, cuz it's SQ is definitely sub-par in every setup I've heard it in (and some of those were really good installs, which helped it a LOT)

Just to add to Waltherone's comments:

This sub needs LOTS of power, that's why most people installs do not sound good with it. Give it juice and it pumps big time. Tight, low and clean., plenty of "snap" for techno when done right.

I installed two in the back on regular cab S-10 and the guy loved it, only lost one or notches on seat recline/travel. They fit into tiny spaces, but we counter sunk them to gain that extra 1/2". Most people thought he had two 12" back there :)

Yeah, they do like their power.

Bout the SQ thing, all I am saying is, they are geared for SPL (and they do it very well if you give them enough power to do so, and the right box type and box size) but if ALL a person wants is quick tight bass, and doesn't care that much about sheer volume, I can name a dozen better choices.

Not dissin L7's, just makin sure he gets the right sub for his needs :)

I have a solo-baric 8, is the vented box in the manual the best application for it. Would the mtx6500d be good power for one. If I had two would the be good enough power for the both of them?
Thanks,
Jeff

Greg-
I have recently purchased 2 L7 solo-baric 8's and I am very anxious to see how they sound myself. I have heard them many times in other installs and too felt that they lacked sound quality, especially when compared to the old round solo-barics which were unbeatable in the SQ category. But due to a lack of space I want to go with the square solos to hopefully get the equivalant output of 10's or maybe even 12's. I am used to having 12's which is what I had in my ranger, so I want a similar amount of bass. I am planning on placing the amp between the two subs mounted underneath the rear bench seat in a custom amp rack. I am going to make a custom box out of MDF and fiberglass that conforms to the bottom of the cab and also a fiberglass top to hold the woofers. I have done a similar install before and it worked out well, hopefully this one will too. I may have to raise the rear seat a little to fit it all, have to figure that out as I go.

Anyway, it will probably be about a month before I get everything in because I am still waiting on other components to arrive. I would be happy to let you know how it all goes when I get it done. If you have any qusetions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks,
Rowski

I have an RF301s (300watts into 2Ohms) pushing my S8L7. It's definitely not too small.

anyone who says those subs are not sq or require too much power are on crack...
no offense but ive had multiple competition systems in my vehichles both iasca and db drag and they are deffinately not.

the last system i had was for pure show i was running 2 l5 8's and only 200 watts to each in a .85 cube ported enclosure and i was hitting 140 at the dash in a ford focus. trust me they are deffinately worth the money, require very little space and not that hungry power considering the fact that they are by no means a entry level sub.
however in a small sealed box they do not hit the lower notes so if you listen to bassy music either port them or go w/a set of 10s or even one 12

Kicker is known for their Sound Pressure Level ratings. They've never put out a speaker that could crush the competition in Sound Quality. Audiobahn's the same way. They're great subs don't get me wrong, but if you're looking for SQ they're not a good choice. I have 2 JL Audio 8W3v2 subs custom built into my center console with a 5 channel Alpine amp pushing them. I wired them in parallel at 2 ohms and get 490 watts rms out of them. They sound great when I'm listening to the Dead and pound hard when I need to pump Jadakiss. I also have 6.5 component Infinity Kappas in the front and 4" Kappas behind the seats all running off an Alpine 9835 head unit. I run a Phonenix Gold power cap to keep the lights from dimming and the cops to keep off my ass.

I have 2 12" solo baric l7s in my 2dr ford explorer. These subs are louder than anything ive heard. The only problems ive noticed with you people is that if you put subs in trucks behind the seat, make sure you get a box that meets the recommended cubic volume space or the bass from it will sound like crap. And def. make sure that your box is ported to make it louder for you and your neighbors. For an l7 8" , i'd also recommend that you get a matching kicker amp thats at least 600 watts peak just for one sub to get the true power of the sub.

I have one 15" L5 in a ported box pushed by a zx400.1 kicker amp, and let me tell you its loud and the sq is superb...so yes the solo barics do have good sq too if they are set up right.
