Extra battery will only put more of a load on your alternator. Unless you listen to most of your music with the car off I would invest in a cap. 1 Farad per 500-1000 watts will handle the peaks real nice. Even if you were to get an extra battery it would still be advicable to get caps to help the alternator out.

I agree with RTRUCK on theory, and it is a popular one. But,I have in the past, run dual battery, and found it to help a great deal.If you use an isolator, and run the auxiliary battery for your audio, and let the primary battery take care of just starting the vehicle, you can keep your audio from dropping voltage from your vehicle as quickly. This of course doesnt mean you can bass out your neighbors for an hour without affecting the alternator, but I find that for most systems, the 2nd battery is a very good buffer.I know popular belief would say it doesnt help unless you listen with the engine off, but,I used a dual setup in a nissan stanza way back when, both batteries were exide 1000's,and I never even dimmed the headlights with that setup, running 4 coustic 360 amps. Before I added the 2nd batt,I had killed 3 alternators.Perhaps with todays' more powerful amps, the 2nd battery wouldnt provide the same advantage, and would represent a greater load to the alternator. All I can say,is try it,and test your voltage with the system playing, see what happens.

Well then with your 200amp alternator it shouldn't be a problem adding another battery.

Are you installing a dB monster?

Well im gonna try my sytem with it being just the way it is.. im running 0 guage power to the distribution block and then 4 guauge into the amps.. also usin 4 guage grounds.. i only have less then 10 ft to go for my power.. so it shouldnt affect it that much.

Well my system i am installing is
2 Orion Hcca 12's
2 Orion Hcca 225 amps
1 Orion Hcca Componet Set

So yea.. it should almost be a DB monster in a way..
:)

"Sounds" like you got the most importaint thing--Good wiring. A cap and a battery do the same thing in different ways. Both are good but the caps are better because they can be right next to your amp and don't add 100 pounds to your ride. Caps release huge amounts of energy faster too...for those really big hits....start with a cap then do a battery and alt. combo if you are not satisfied....good luck.

Agree- You shouldn't need any more power besides a cap, unless your truck starts to act up with dead batteries. Two amps and subs will not hurt anything.

Don't quote me, but I have read that a standard battery alt. combo is safe for 5000 watt systems...think about it...most batteries claim like 500 cranking amps.
What do your amps put out?
I have run my earthquake 1150watt(100amp max load) amp in many past cars and trucks using only good wiring and a 1 farid cap....never had alt. or battery problems.
Now if you want to run your system with the engine off an extra batt will double your play time....
