Subject: Factory Tweeter Wiring

Hey guys,
Ok, I've got a decent system in my truck i think. It isn't the
hardest hitting thing out there, but it sure sounds good. A little
background on it: 2-12" Premier shallows... Premier 1200W
mono amp... Permier 4-ways in the doors, amped... Premier
headunit... all in a regular cab :-)
So on to my question. I'm looking to put some real tweeters in
the air vents or somewhere, considering I really don't want to
have them visible. My truck didn't have the nice sound system
from the factory. However, i've noticed an additional plug
behind my door panels. The 2 wires are the same color as the
regular speaker wires. Is that a plug for a factory tweeter? Is
there anyway i can tell if there is signal on it while the volume is
up? I'm decent with a multi-meter, but i don't know that much
about speaker signals... is there a voltage or something?
Thanks

Yes the unused plugs and wires are for the OE tweeters, but they won't really do you much good. When the Dakota has factory-installed tweeters there is a capacitor inline on the speaker wire at the tweeter. If you want to test the wires for a signal just hook up a test speaker to them. If you add tweeters later on just use the wiring and crossover that should come with your new tweeters and connect them to the wiring going to the door speaker, or you could use the factory tweeter wiring if it is connected to the new Pioneer speakers in the doors. Either way be sure there is a crossover in line on the tweeters. The sail panels on the doors are the perfect mounting locations for aftermarket tweeters.
