Subject: where to splice factory head unit?
IP: Logged

Message:
I just got a Punch 60, and a 12" kenwood db sub in a sealed box. Where do I splice in the wires on the factory head unit (2000 club cab, infinity stereo)? I had a 6" Kicker powered sub, and I spliced in the wires right out of the back of the factory head unit, and it worked perfectly. So, I used those same spliced wires and plugged them into a line converter, then to the punch amp, but now when I turn on the radio, I get "sp err" (Which I'm assuming means speaker error) and I don't get sound from ANY speakers. Do I have to re-splice the wires BEHIND the factory amp? Why did my old splice behind the head unit work for the Kicker Powered sub, and not now with my new setup?

Thanks!

Well I think the majority of people with amps or subs tend to use an aftermarket head unit with RCA cables and alternate power wires directly to the battery or amp.

maybe it's simply just a disconnected wire.

I have an Alpine with 2 sets of 4V pre-outs and a remote that I'm toying with the idea of putting it in. Only problem is I was planning on putting that in my 68 Camaro that currently has no radio.

I can't justify buying another new head unit, when I'm pretty satisfied with the way my factory one sounds. Maybe I'll get lucky, and the factory unit will die soon.

Well then you may have to go in there and re-wire it or have someone do it for you.
