Hey guys. I have a 97 Dak, 3.7, 4x4, QC.

I was wondering for those of you that have CB radio's hooked up...where do you have them installed.
I just got one, but its sitting on my seat right now till i can figure out how i want to mount it. Looking for ideas from you all...any and all will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I mounted my cb bracket on the underside of the middle dash piece, then ran my wiring up into the back of that piece and hardwired it to my accessory plug so it'd be keyed on/off with the ignition.

Hey GB,
Thanks for the info. That is where i would like to mount it.....but i have a manual transmission and unless i mount it really low, the shifter will bump into it...and then i have to reach down to access it...not safe to do while driveing.

Do you have pics of your set up?
Thanks again,
Mac

Nope, I don't sorry...don't have it installed anymore...might put it back in eventually though. I found it really useful for interstate driving, especially when there was a wreck and traffic was all backed up.

I think mine was mounted pretty low though...for a manual, you'd just have to mount it a little further back so the front of the cb wouldn't stick out so far. I usually had my volume set to whatever volume I normally listened at and then whenever I started the truck, I'd immediately switch it over to channel 19. Didn't really have to mess with it much while driving.

Thanks GB,

Do you know of anyone mounting it on the headliner? My Dak is pretty much bare bones so no computer up top for me and PLENTY of room...Just dont know how i would mount it without worrying the head liner would just fall right off.
The CB is an old Cobra and pretty heavy (i have an external speaker as well).
My brother is a Truck Driver and upgraded his CB and so he gave me this old one...

I am in the same boat as you with having a 4x4 and a 5 speed. I do however have the computer up top though. I mounted mine on top of the dash over on the left side by the door. It isn't pretty but it is functional.

I too hooked my power wire up to the cigarrette lighter outlet that is keyed with the ignition. I also have an external speaker that I mounted behind the drivers seat kind of in the club cab window there on the B pillar just where I can hear it with the windows rolled down and stuff.

I keep a towel sitting over the cb radio so as not to invite thieves when it is parked.

Thanks for the input Ewraven.

Like i said Mine is a pretty old Model Cobra and its kinda big. If i put it on the dash its gonna take up alot of space and be a HUGE Eyesore (and tempting for theives).
I like your idea about the external speaker though. Sounds good.
I guess i'll just wait and see if anyone else has an idea about mounting it on the headliner.

No clue bout mounting it on the headliner...if it's pretty heavy, you'd prolly need to mount it to the metal...and then you'd end up with bolt holes going through the roof of your truck or something. Plus if you do that, then you'll end up with your mic wire hanging there all the time.

I'd try and figure out a place where you can mount it low.

Also keep in mind that if a cop wants to be a d!ck, they can nail you for "obstruction of view" if you've got it anywhere where they feel it's blocking your view while driving.

Ya GB thats my worry about putting it on the headliner..its pretty heavy. I guess i'll just have to suck it up and mount deep under the dash like you said.
Thanks for the info.

You could also get an overhead storage shelf for your truck and mount it to that...

They have them for the Dakota at www.jcwhitney.com
