I have a 03 Dakota Clubcab with the infinity sound system. The door speakers are blown. I only have bestbuy and circuit city near me. I see I have 4 choices.. The Alpine SPR-17LS, Rockford P162S,
POLK DB6500, and the MTX TX6001. Which would be the best choice? I plan to upgrade the amp soon as well...

Go listen to them at the store. Have the salesman use your headunit if they have it or something close to it if possible and have him hook the speakers up to it. Pick whatever sounds the best

That's useless. How they sound on the shop's wall has little bearing on how they'll sound in the truck's doors.

Jim Z is right. I'd go with the Alpines or the Polks personally. I think RF and MTXs subs are great but not there mids/highs.

Are you set on those brands of speakers only? I have infinity components in my doors and infinity references in the rear. They are sooo loud, youd definetly love em. sounds good with the sub too, lots of highs, and real good for the lows.

Downside: infinity components = $200 =(
infinity references = $100 not bad

Jeez CJ, nice attitude :-( Do you think people are going to take your advice seriously with an attitude like that?

Forseti was asking about door speakers and you come on here spouting "that's all junk" why don't you get some subs,,, yeah, real solid advice.

Forseti, sorry for the rant. I have Inifinity Reference 605CS components front and rear in my 03 QC driven off a Orion 4x50W amp. Nice sound, clear and loud. If your adding components I would consider amping them as the stock Infinity amp is designed for 2 ohm speakers, it's not going to drive the 4 ohm speakers very good. It will work, but your new speakers won't be as loud as the old 2 ohm stock speakers.

I got the Infinity conponents off Ebay for $100 a set couple of years ago, but it took some looking to get them for under $100. Search Ebay for "6010cs" or "infinity 6010*", this is the newer version of the components I have in my truck.

If you get speakers at Best Buy or Circuit City your selection will be limited and you will pay a lot more. I could see these stores charging $300 for a set of components once installation, warranty and tax are added in. $100 off Ebay and you install them or $300 from BB or CC, basically $200 for installation and warranty.

Oh yeah, I bet they will be crap too if CJ rings in.........

like lvbmxrider said, you would not believe how much of a markup there is on car audio at the big electronic stores. i used to work at circuit city, and our employee discount was usually at least half off of car audio. it sucks that i dont work there anymore now that i am about to put a system in my truck.
