95 dakota single cab.......

FM radio quit years ago, been listening to AM talk radio for the same amount of years. :)

I can get the dash off and everything as I have already done this to try to fix the radio.....no dice.

I'm not much into "building" some grand sound system in my truck. What I would like to do however is unplug the current radio/cassette deck and replace it with more or less a "plug and play" radio. I've read about adaptors, new wiring, blah, blah, blah.....

For God's sake, isn't there a DECENT replacement out there where I can just plug the damn thing in and go??

I'd prefer the following type system: CD player, FM/AM radio and that's about it. It would be a bonus if I could also play .mp3 but not critical.

So is there such an animal out there? A simple plug and play "deck" (I guess???) where all these adaptors and BS isn't needed? Point me in the right direction please.

Again, having the loudest or best quality sound is not what I'm after.......I'm after some decent, standard, run of the mill sound that is at least equal to what I got from the factory. Nothing more. Thanks in advance!

Well, in order to not have to deal with adapters, you would have too find a factory radio with the cd player in it for your year vehicle, or at least whatever years they used that specific wiring, I think it is '87-'01, but don't quote me on that.

Ok, how about this........

I went to tweeter.com and there was a link that something like "which radio is right for your car"

So I clicked on it, entered all the info it asked for:

Make: Dodge
Model: Dakota
Year :1995
2dr Regular cab

And it pulled up about 5 cd/radio's decks.
Those should be just plug and play, no??

Nope, you will need a wiring harness adapter for any aftermarket stereo you buy... they are actually very simple to wire up, and you hardwire them to the stereo, not the truck, then the plug end of the adapter just plugs into the factory harness in the truck.

Just go to http://www.crutchfield.com and find the link "what fits" and plug in the info. It'll tell you what head units will fit your truck. Other automotive electronics websites have the same feature. Look for it and use it.

They are fu ck ing easy to wire up. Everything is colored for easy matching and hooking up. I can wire up a cd player in 5 min., 4 speakers in 15 min, and 2 subs and an amp in 30 min. You are a retard!

ScojoDak, he will still need to buy a wiring harness to be able to plug it into the factory harness.. Just because it says it'll fit the truck doesn't mean it will just plug right in, this just means the head unit will fit into the factory slot (still may need to buy an installation kit) believe me, I have installed hundreds of aftermarket head unit's/systems at my buddies business. Mikeman, I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I actually agree with DontBuyPete for once.... *aarrggghhhh*.. the wiring harnesses are extremely easy to wire in....

EMTSquad51, you may have misread my post. I know that you just don't "plug in" most head units and play away. I said to "plug in" his truck info into Crutchfields database, not the h/u. Anyway...

Right Scojo, no problems, I just wanted to make sure he didn't think that since it said it fit, he wouldn't have to buy anything else. Sorry, should have clarified that more. I knew what you were meaning, just wanted to make sure he did as well. :o)

Just go to best buy or circuit city, pick out something, and they will install it for free. I think this also includes wiring and a dash kit if needed. If not its just a few dollars more.

Excellent point Blue92.... forgot about their deal at circuit city, I think it's any head unit over $99 comes with a free install, but you do have to pay for the harness/install kit, which comes out to around $30.

Good thing about places like Best Buy, is for a little more you get a 4 YEAR warranty. Which means, if it BREAKS you get a replacement INSTANTLY. Not by removing and sending it in.

I've taken my RockFord Fozgate P2 in at LEAST 4 times when I've blown the voice coil in it. And I walk right back out each time with a brand new one.

Good warranty and worth every penny.
Just an additional idea.
