I currently have 2 Rockford HE2 8" subs (250RMS) subs powered by a Phoenix Gold Octane R (A/B class) 300 watt amp. I have never been able to get very loud sound out of the subs. I have it tuned to maximum, and even though they are only 8's i would expect more high end sound. In the cab itself they are adequate, but when i crank up my stereo they are taken over by my polk components. So, should i replace my subs with polk db 8s rated at 180RMS each which would work with my amp or should i replace my amp with a phoenix gold xenon rated at 400 watts, giving more power to my subs. I would rather get rid of my subs than my amp, since my subs were $80 total, but a 180 watt sub may not put out as much power.
