I see you have an 03 Dak,,, well you would really be surprised because Dodge didn't think the 03's needed a battery to frame ground wire, at least that's the way my 03 was. Check out the 2 ground wires coming from the battery terminal, one goes to the engine block and the other goes to the passanger side fender, nothing to the frame. Sooooo, if you grounded your amp to the frame (which should be an excellent ground) you really have a poor ground.

I know all about this, I grounded to the frame on my 03, had alternator wine and couldn't figure out why there was noise until I traced down the OEM battery ground wires. I ran an #0 ground wire from the battery to the frame and it solved the problem.

If you grounded to the body sheet metal or seat belt bolts then your just asking for alternator wine. If in doubt, ground directly to the battery.

Is your deck, amp, EQ, CD changer, etc,,, all grounded to the same location? If not you could be getting a "ground loop", (different ground paths back to the battery) which can cause alternator wine. Try grounding the deck to the amp's grounding location.

Also, make sure your RCA cables are not close to your power cables or other power sources. I would try to keep them 1' apart on the long run back to the amp(s).

#8 guage wire should be fine as long as it's the same as the power wire and your not over powing the wire, I wouldn't go over 300Wrms on an 8 guage power/groung wire. The key here is you want a low resistance ground path, the more current pushed down a wire the higher the wire's resistance becomes. Reason I mention this, if your getting alternator wine with the stereo volume turned down, the guage of the wire isn't the problem.
