I bought some kind of cheap 3 way 6 1/2" speakers and replced the stock ones in my Quad Cab.

To get them in, I had to shim out the speakers even further.

First I applied this CORK TAPE stuff that is super sticky.

Then modified the modling for the new speakers with the dremel so it would fit over the stock spacer thus adding about another 1/4" spacer to move the new speakers out far enough so the windows still roll all the way down.

The door panel just fits over them.

I drove it tonight and after all that work, I really don't hear the difference. I kind of knew better, but them higher frequencies form the tweeters are just cancelled out somewhat by the seats and the speakers being so low.

I may unhook those and mount some emclosed 3 way speakers I have laying here. I'll mount those up high on the head liner I think.

Anyway. I always take pics of mods I do to the Dak. They sometimes help others who want to know what's involved in doing something. The door panels were super easy to remove on this Dak :)

Thanks for the info. I was shopping for new speakers this weekend and the tech told me not to waste money on the rears 'cause you can't hear them due to the location. I thought it was strange he was talking me out of buying a set. I think I'll go get the fronts from him since he seems to be a good guy.

Yep, same here. Stereo guy told me not to bother replacing the rears, just the front speakers in my '01 QC. Took his advice figuring I could always redo the rears later anyway. Unhooked the stock tweeters after installing a new MP3/CD deck and putting new Alpines in the front doors, which made a solid difference over the stock Infinity system.

Yup. I may pull them rear speakers back out and mount the enclosed set of 3 ways in the upper rear liner.

I KNOW that will make a difference!

The ones I am going to use is some old Radio Shack ones I've had forever (from when Radio Shack used to make them).

I've used them in 2 or 3 past cars in the rear in place of 6x9's because they sounded so good.

I'll post pix when I do it.
