Subject: EQ's or Epicenters?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have just recently finished installing my new system in my 88 regular cab and am looking for some type of eq or epicenter to control the sound of my subs better. I know Audio Control makes a bunch of these but I have no idea where to start, does anyone have any experience with them or know which is better.
here is what I am running:

2, RF HX2 12's powered by the RF power BD1000
RF 6.5 fanatic X Components in the doors
RF 5 fanatic X Components in the rear pillars

the BD1000 has a low frequency boost remote knob but I want more control than just that boost.

I currently have the kenwood x617 head unit.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try an audiocontrol 3.1,or 4.1,you'll get great control with the 3.1,it has a sub level adjuster, and you can boost or cut the frequency of your choice between like 40 hz to 90 hz,its a basic eq,but makes a big difference.

I have had the EQX and the epicenter, both peformed good but I could never get the things adjusted to my tastes. The Epicenter would just rumble the subs into distortion no matter what I would do. Plus you have to deal with their plug in modules whenever you wanted to change a crossover setting. I would try the Phoenix Gold bass cube or something similiar. It is easy to use and doesn't muck up the sound quality.

The eqx should have been very clean, and very good for enhancing the sound quality, there are very few processors out there that can match the specs of audiocontrol when it comes to thd,and ouput voltage.Pheonix Gold makes good stuff too,but the eqx should not have been a problem. The epicenter I can not speak for,I have heard they dont always produce good results, perhaps the eqx alone would have been better. The crossover modules can be less user friendly, but, they are also cleaner filters than most continuously adjustable crossovers.Once they are set, there is really no need to change them.I had the Rockford Fosgate epx2 symmetry with the 28 band eq card, and it was a great piece, very easy to adjust, with tons of flexibility, however,I felt it could not match the audiocontrol products in its crossover,or the equalizer. The only advantage it had over audiocontrol would be it is one unit, and to have all of its features with audiocontrol, you would need numerous pieces,crossover,equalizers,etc...I'd check out pheonix golds' 32 bander also, thats a nice eq.

I had no problems with the EQX, it did it's job fine. Audiocontrol is a fine product, but they seem to be a few years behind in making units that are easy to use and combine features. On the other hand there are new companies like MA Audio, Planet Audio, Audiobahn that cram 16 features into a suitecase size box. Its hard to find a product that has everything you want with out having something you don't like.
