Does the type of box increase or decrease the SPL in a vehicle? And if so, which kind of box creates more SPL or is it just a matter of preference?

It depends on the speaker. Ported boxes can enhance SPL output, but only if the speaker is suitable for a ported box and the box is the correct size.

Ok...So it has more to deal with the size of the box.
You see, I have to do a Senior Research Project at school and I am trying to do something with subs and SPL. Any other ideas around that would be greatly appreciated.
