Can anyone who has put in a disc changer tell me how difficult it was, any problems to look out for and where they mounted it? Thanks in advance for all replies.

Aftermarket changers are about a 6 on the difficulty scale. Mounting them is the hardest part, finding that space for the box.
Honestly, why not change out the head unit for an MP3 player? The cost is about the same. You can hold almost as many tunes on one MP3 disc as 6 audios, and the titles will show on the face of the new radio.
