 Subject: amp to subwoofer wattage ratio

I have a 1100 watt sub that I finally got working. I have a 300 watt subwoofer amp, will that be able to drive it to full potential? Also I have to buy a box for the 12 inch sub now and I'm not sure how to go about buying a box for it.
