Subject: What about this RF & Boss system?

Hey. I never posted in the custom audio board. Anyway, I have a limited budget, and I couldnt afford to get a bigger engine or some REAL nice mods done, so I thought of getting a new "system".

I have an '89 dak standard cab with the 3.9L, so I have limited space. I custom build a nice sub box to fit behind my bench seat (13.75" tall, 22" wide, and 4.5"deep at the top and 8.25" at the bottom). It works great and fits a 12" sub with a mounting depth of 6". I have a Jensen sub in there (200WRMS, 600Wmax) and a Rockford Fosgate Punch amp from 1997 (55WRMSx2 at 2Ohms, 240WmaxMONO at 4Ohms) and it severely overpowers that Jensen with no problem.

Anyway, I saw on Ebay (buy it now) a RFP4112 sub (12" RF Punch 200WRMSx2 at 2Ohms each, 800Wmax at 4Ohms) and A RF Punch 401s (exact specs as the sub for wattage). The sub and amp goes for $251.00 after separage shipping costs. I saw a Panasonic CQ-C3300U CD/MP3/WMA player for only $137 w/ free s&h. I hear BOSS is a decent brand of speakers, so I am looking at this 5.25" component set (w/ tweeters) also for $35 plus $20 s&h. They have an 80oz magnet and the speakers can handle about 550Wmax each. They look pretty nice. Those will go in the door (there is an amp in the dash for them).

I dont mean to bore anybody, but I wonder if this will sound good. My brother has a Punch 201s and it hits HARD on is Punch HE2 sub in a little sealed box. I hope this is a little louder. I wanted to show that he payed too much for his stuff. I know which subs and amps are nice, but I dont know which is truly the best. I have no experience with some of those absurdly overpriced brands. I do plenty of research and always like to install the stuff myself. I hope the RF lives up to their name. I still have an old 100W 12" RF sub from around 1991 or 1992 in good shape that works great.

Well, what does everybody else think? Is Rockford Fosgate great? Thanks...

All depends on what you are looking for. SPL? SQ? With most manufactuers out there today you get what you pay for. I would be weary of buying on ebay because msot of them are not authorized dealers and you could end up with a hunk of junk and no warranty. BOSS isnt high on my audio list. They have at most decent stuff, but if you are on a budget you have to get what you can afford. As far as "do they sound good" that all depends on a couple things. first you would want to amplify them to the proper power, second is your ear. it all depends on your ear, and if you like the way they sound then they are good for you. With all audio stuff, the only thing you can get an accurate measure on form other people is the reliability standpoint. The other factors such as look and sound will depend soley on you.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for quality. I really dont like it when people blare their factory radio system and they sound like crap. I do like, however, being able to turn the music to a loud-ish level while still maintaining quality. I wish I could afford pro-audio equipment, but these things may have to do. I have my "cheapo" configuration tweaked where you can turn it up pretty high without any distortion from the little 5.25" speakers or the subwoofer. It is loud, and sounds great. All speakers and sub are well balanced and are never overpowered.

I understand that it depends how it sounds to me, but I was curious to see what others thought of Boss and Rockford Fosgate. I know that I get what I pay for, but is Boss a better quality brand compared to other, similarily priced brands? If not, then what would you recommend me looking at? Looks dont matter, as long as it sounds good and will preform well when I turn up the volume.

I hope these people are honest (on ebay). I bought these products "Buy It Now" from only the ebay stores. These stores seem okay. I hope the positive feedback was actually written by the satisfied customers. I find it funny that although ebay is a place for auctions, I never did bid on any of the items. Anyways, I appreciate the reply....

This is the third time ive posted this. Something keeps happening and for some reason my posts arent showing.
For your box, you have roughlya cubic ft of volume. With that sub I would suggest building a new box. You can also look into a different sub or use polyfil if your set on that sub. Polyfill will prolly only trick the sub into thinking there is about 10-15% more volume.
I would check out sounddomain.com and US acoustics. US makes some damn good inexpensive products. Hit me up if you want some help lookin for stuff. Let me know what you would like to spend and Ill see if i cant find you a killer set up.
