Subject: amp location question

Message:
I concern myself with stupid little things so I have the following questions:

1. I have two amps to install in my quadcab. Opinions on installing under the rear seats or behind them? If behind, will the seats still fold up?? If under, will they go all the way down. I can chk the under part, I just ahven't yet.

2. What do you fasten the amps too?? Just run screws thru the floor if under the seat and hope no water works it way thru if they are exposed to the elements underneath?? Or if mounted behind the seats will the screws protrude thru the rear wall and thus water can come in around those screws.

thanks for helping

In my 03 QC I mounted an amp under the passenger seat (drivers seat had no room because of the power motor). I've heard of people mounting behind the rear seats but I used that for my sub location. (Single 8").

You would be best served to search this board for something like (quad, amp) and you'll get more info that you know what to do with..

I mounted mine behind the seats... and they still fold up. Take a look at: http://www.blueoceanpress.com/~storage/truck/index.html

The trick was to remove the factory panel back there and recess the amps to gain as much room as possible. When the seats fold up they move back and sit flat against the amp so becareful.

Under the seats would work too, but only with a small amp I'd guess. I'm not big fan of mounting under the seats... all kinds of stuff winds up on the floor of your truck - spilled soda, potato chips and other goodies ;)

If your going to mount them under the seats, make sure you have the AC/heater running to your feet all the time to get air flow across the amps. I blew an amp because it overheated under the seat years ago, lack of air flow, well I mean no air flow. I have my amps mounted under the front seats of my CC, but always make sure to have air flowing across them if the stereo is cranking.

If your worried about water getting to the screws, crawl under the truck and put a dab of silicone on them. The silicone should protect the screws and holes from rust and strip off easily if you need to remove the screws.

Great way to screw the amps to the floor is to position the amp and use a thin ice pick to pop a small hole through the carpet and floor. Screw one corner partially down and go to the next hole. Works great since the ice pick doesn't get bind up in the carpet fibers like a drill bit and you don't have to remove the amp to punch the holes.

I put a brand new Concept slimline 135-watt amp under my drivers seat in a 2000 Ext. Cab Dakota.
My seat is not affected and the amp pushes my 2-10" MTX subs under the back seats like you wouldn't beleive!
