How do the door panels come off on my '94? And what is a good 5 1/4 speaker to put in there should I go with component speakers or 2 and 3 way speakers? I have a Pioneer gm/chrysler-fit cd receiver with polk 5x7 2way speakers in the back.

i have a 94 reg cab dakota and i replaced the stock 5X7 rear stock paper speakers with new pioneer 5X7s and replaced the front 5.25" speakers with sony xplods.-i also took off the door panels again to install dynamat to the door itself and around the speaker hole to prevent vibrations. anyways..your question

to take it off, you need to unscrew the two or three screws holding the door panel. then there are like clips all around the outer edge- perhaps 8-10 total- every 6 inchs or so. oh yeah, you also need to take off the door handle- im pretty sure you have the manual roll down the window handle, which is what i have, so unless you know some other way of taking it off, you need to buy a door handle remover thingy which makes the handle come off by sliding it and removing the handle- clearly im bad at explaining it. but after you take off the clips, then it comes right off, and you have access to the 5.25" speakers. id recommend replacing it with pioneer or any other nice brand. my sony xplods sound fine, but there are better speakers than sony.

eh, 94s right about takin them off for the most part. thers a screw in the arm rest top and in the corner by the mirrow on the inside. then there are the clips all around it. they just pull out, but be gentle. as for the window crank, in my 87 (manual) there is a screw holding the crank on. its a torquex head. and dont forget to take the top of the lock pull head thingu off, it just unscrews. then just take it off.

as for the speaker.. id go with a 5 1/4 component set and mount the tweeter into the panel above the speaker, unless you dont want to cut the door panel. then get a coaxil, id go with RF or infinity.

Ok thanks I have a manual role down window and the crank was the main think I did not know how to take off. I don't mind cutting a hole in the door panel I was just wondering component speakers sound much better, and which is a good 5 1/4 speaker.

go to autozone, they sell vinyl paint, thats what i used. and no i didnt have to remove it, i just removed the bolts along the defrost vents on the front of the dash and pulled the dash away from the windshield about an inch, then taped everythin off really good and painted it. the key is to tape off really well cause there was alotta overspray.

good luck, and if u need more help, im here.

After taking out all the screws and removing the window crank if
you have manual windows you need to lift straight up on the panel
to get it off the door. Don't forget the 2 screws in the very bottom
edge of the door panel.

i made kicks for my truck 4 inch mid and tweet and then made pods for a 6.5 mid bass driver and then cut two 6.5s just above the arm rest- it was crazy. right now in one of my dakotas i have pioneer mids and tweets for a home surround system and in my other dakota i have kenwood excellon. the best 5x7s i have used in the back are definitely alpine! i specialize in 12volt electronics and am the shop forman at a custom shop in detroit.
