i am looking into replacing my factory speakers. i don't want to put a lot of money into it. any one got any ideas as to what kind of speker is the best to go with. what size speakers are in door and extended cab. 97 5.2 slt

I went to Circuit City and got a nice price on Alpines that fit in the doors and rear panels for my 99. They were probably $100 a pair

Alpines are good, Infinity Reference series or Infinity Kappa series if you got a little extra to spend. Those are great sounding speakers. Just go listen at some stores to see what you like the sounds of the best. Then buy them from a cheaper place like etronics.com or ebay.
