Hey all- Ive seen Postings requesting pictures of the Din 1/2 Pioneer unit mounted in the Dakota. I have a 2001 Quad Cab Super Sport 4x4. I now have a really AWESOME sounding stereo including this headunit (DEH-P46DH), a 12 disk changer (mounted under REAR DS seat), a pair of Pioneer Components up front and a pair of Pioneer 3 ways in back, and the thing I like most: a 8" Pioneer Amplified subwoofer in the footwell of the DS REAR seat- I have the subwoofer wires and RCA wires coming up under my drivers seat and pull them out to hook up my subwoofer. Most of the time I have it in but when I need to haul 4 people I can move it to the center hump, or if I'm hauling 5 people, just unplug it and throw it in the bed! Best part of my system is that EVERYTHING is controlable from the headunit; the 12 disk changer (Text Compatible), the sub-woofer, and once you plug the sub in you have the options to control all of the other speakers as well. (IE: kill the base from your door speakers, etc.) Heres the link to the picture of the head unit and of the component speaker in the door panel:

If youd like to see the rest, just post A request and Id be happy to snap some more pics!

Thanks for posting those and I'd welcome any more links to pics. Nice to see that unit in a '01 truck. I was worried about the trim fit around the head unit, but now I'll have to go back an consider the Pioneer. Do you by chance have the steering wheel controls and do they still work?

Hey Bob,

NO I dont have the steering wheel controls, and no they wouldnt work on the P47, however, leave it to Pioneer to satisfy everyone, you can upgrade to the P77 which will work with the remote.

Where did you find a mounting bracket to fit around the Pioneer. I just returned that stereo system to the place I bought it because I couldn't find a round mounting bracket for the DIN 1/2 for a 2001. Damn, if you had only posted those pics a week ago!

Hey Bill,

Guess I forgot to mention that part- I didnt use a trim kit or bracket as you call it. To get the unit flush with the dash I used a metal spacer (came with my cd-changer, but several stacked washers would work) behind the head unit mounting brackets where the screw enters the holes in the dash. From there it was just a matter of manuevering the unit to the left or the right till it fit "just right" in the factory opening. If you notice in the picture I was careful to position the unit to the top of the factory opening thus leaving a cleaner look- also in the picture you can kinda tell on the right side that the unit JUST FITS - I too was worried that it wouldnt, but played around with it until I was satisfied.

Sorry I Didnt post earlier! :(

I am glad that wasn't a mounting bracket as I have looked all over God's green earth looking for one and they don't exist! I did install my stereo in the stock hold and put the dash on and didn't like the way it looked, but I didn't use the washers so that probably made the difference. Your installation looks great, oh well, it wasn't meant to be for me. Thanks for you help anyway!

Actually there is a company that makes a red eye type receiver for all steering wheel controls. we have a Jeep with an oversize Pioneer and steering wheel deals. It works fine so dont worry about adapting them, just look for them.

I popped for a DEH-P77DH today. Was thinking about just staying with the factory head unit, but the added features and control of an aftermarket just made sense.

I have the same head unit in my 1991 Dakota Sport 4X4, love it tonnes, and I;m thinking of running subs, will I need an amp for 8" subs? I've heard that the head unit is strong enough that you don't really need an amp, but I don't really know about this stuff. Any info would be apprecialted.

Jerry,

The unit only mutes CD's that are in it or a disk changer- the mute button does not work for radio (Regular or satelitte) - thats the way it was designed.
