Subject: sub on QC seat

ok, here's the situation, I dont want to dump alot of money into a custom box for my quadcab so share your thoughts on: 1)is this a dumb idea and 2)has anyone done this and 3)anybody know where i can get this?

Id like to just place a nice looking sub box in the middle of the back seat in my quadcab. It would fit like an arm rest for the 2 passengers on the outside.
I have a 40/60 bench seat and thought of taking out the 60 side and replace it with anther 40 leaving room in the middle on the floor for a floor box. But i'm sure the seat would cost a few hun so that's too pricey. Opinions please!

Buy the qlogic truc box that holds a single 8'' sub.The box will fit behind the 40 side. Now it is a bitch to get the seat back in and mounted but can be done. I did this to my girlfriends quadcab and she is happy. I myself was surprised sounds real good for an 8''. Yeah you wont shake no house windows but overall sound quality is nice. She spent less then $600 for everything. This include new coxail for teh back and componets for the front everything is running of teh deck and the sub is being pushed by a rockford fosgate 201s amp.Yeah if we amped teh componets they would sound better but she is happy and thats all that matters.

Do what I did if you handy with power tools and/or have access to a table saw:

Cost = speaker $100-150 + around $20 worth of stuff from Home Depot. Takes about 3 hours to build depending on wood working skills.

I've seen John's (JMII) work on his web site and seriously considered doing this, but reconsidered after reality set in.

I have two boys that go in the back seat and half the time they crawl over the seat to go out one door or the other. They also have this nasty habit of "needing" to have a drink of some sort with them.

I believe that a setup like John's will sound better, but having my two yard apes crawling over 'em and putting drinks any and everywhere made me go with the 8" sub in the Q-Logic box behind the 40 seat.

The seat back comes off quite easily (seat back only, not the entire seat...) and "all" that needs to be purchased is the box, sub, amp, and wiring. With little to no fabricating, depending on the sub purchased. I ended up spending:

o Sub (Kicker L7S8) $130
0 Amp (RF 301S) $130
o Box (Q-logic QLT-.3508) $65
o Wiring/misc (upgraded power wire, distribution block, fuses etc.) $65

Note that all prices are shipped to my door $$$.

Lurkin - "yard apes" LOL
With my downfiring sub I don't think your kids would cause that much damage... but you never know. Behind the seat IS safer (and more hidden), just make sure to put the amp back there too - 'cause an amp under the front seats would be a big problem with spilled drinks. This is why I put my amps in the back even without kids.

I chose the center location because I needed the room under the 40% seat for my CD changer and needed the room under the 60% for the jack & tools. While the CD could have gone under the front seats, I was worried about spilling myself ;) there is already a nice collection of potato chips bits & french fries down there LOL

If you want something pre-fab the MTX Thunderform for the QC that goes behind the seats looks nices. My friend Jan (who helped build my box) is going that route. It's around .7 cu ft and holds a 10", just watch the mounting depth, some 10"s have pretty big magnets these days.

thanks 4 the input guys but:

rhlam96- $600 is exactly what i dont want to spend. I'm hoping for like around $200 or so. See, i already have two R.F. 12" speakers and a Blaupunkt 12" and an old RF amp that i could use. The RF speakers and amp is mounted to a HUGE box that came out of a buddy's car and could only fit in the bed of my truck - which this idea i've kicked around alittle.

JMII- great setup U have there. I wish i would of seen that 4 months ago before I installed my 12 disk/MP3 player on the floor in the back where your speaker sits. (it tucks mostly under the seat for protection) and is easily accessable to get at magazine. I never thought of mounting it where you did. I am very impressed with your entire setup.

id like to maybe buy a good 10" or 8" sub, use my existing RF amp and just get a good looking box that i can sit on the seat. I'd mount the amp behind the seat. Has anyone ever seen a sub-box that doubles as an armrest?
