Hi,

I have a 1994 regular cab dakota with a sony cdxmp30 (mp3) cd head unit (52wX4), two sony 5.25" xplods in front, and two pioneer 5X7s in the rear. I have ordered an 8" sub, amp, and box from sounddomain.com- which with i am extremely annoyed, because i ordered it on feb. 1st (sunday), and i was immediately informed that my order would be shipped the next day, feb 2nd. Now it is feb. 6th, and when i try to track my order, it still says my order is "not yet shipped", and so there is obviously no tracking number for the fedex website to see. I emailed them, but have gotten no response. I am hoping it HAS been shipped, just the website has not been updated, otherwise, i would have appreciated it if they would have emailed me, informing me that they would NOT be shipping on monday.

Anyways, thats not my point..My real point is..I was wondering if any other people have problems with their door panels vibrating- i.e. it sounds very good inside, but when you go outside and listen to it, the panels are definitely vibrating. Does anybody else have this problem? I actually ended up buying some "Tsunami Silencer" sound-dampening pad stuff from circuit city, installed it, and i can definitely hear the difference; before when i turned it up pretty loud, i could tell the back panels especially were vibrating a little bit, but now it is WAY better. If i am listening to music at regular volume (medium-loud) and go outside, you cannot hear vibrations, but when i turned it up loud, i still can hear vibrations (not really rattles, but sort of) outside. This really bugs me! I am afraid when i FINALLY END UP GETTING MY SUB AND STUFF that my door is gonna shatter (jk). Anybody have this problem?!@%?

Thanks

I don't know if this is going to help your problem since I think you are describing the plastic door and interior panels ratteling. But, I have always put some fiberfill (pillow stuffing) behind the mids in the doors and rear panels. This helps dampen the internal noises in the body cavitys where the speakers are mounted.

I also have an annoying panel rattle in my CC that I haven't had the time to track down yet. It only shows up when the stereo is about 3/4 to full volume of the 500W system. I think it's coming from where the two back side panels meet.

I don't know about noise from outside the truck since I only have it cranking when cruising down the freeway. Had my stuff ripped off too many times by the hood rats, so I don't play it loud in the neighborhood anymore. If they can't rear it they, probably don't know you have it. I guess a loud stereo is like a dinner bell for the little punks taht are too lazy to get a job. Oops, sorry for ranting, guess I got off the subject a little.

All you can do is apply Dynamat (or similar material) to the panels like you have already done. In order to do it right you have to cover just about every metal and plastic surface you can find, especially inside the door panels - the pros completely strip their vehicles and apply lots of thin layers. However there are still going to be some rattles/vibrations as your truck is not made from wood ;)

As for fiberfill in the doors - it would just get wet so I would not do that.

On a side note: who cares what it sounds like outside they only ones that are impressed with that are the 'hood rats DSW mentioned and they'll just jack your stuff :(

Yeah, JMII brought up a good point. The fiberfill in the doors might get wet and freeze leaving a big ice cube in the door. Talk about door rattles!

I don't have to worry about this since I live in the desert, it only rains out here 2 times a year and rarely freezes.

Another thing you could do is put foam weather stripping anywhere the plastic door panel meets the metal body panel. Use open cell foam since the closed cell foam takes a lot of pressure to compress and might distort the panel. If the Dynamat is in these contact areas you shouldn't have to use the foam weather stripping, but the weather stripping is cheaper and easier to apply. I picked up a 2 roll pack at Wally World for,,, Hmmm $4.

just an update..

i called sounddomain.com at their 1-800-phone number because i never got an immediate response to my email..i had to wait for prolly 2 minutes..then a rep asked me the order id..then he said to wait for "just a sec"..one more minute or so goes by..then tells me that the box was out of stock, so they had to order it from q-logic, and that it would probably ship in on monday, and thats when my order would be shipped to me. So at least now i know WHY they never shipped it on feb. 2nd. HOwever, i AM pretty darn annoyed that they didnt inform me of this, as now i am going to be receiving my package a whole week late. oh well. at least they had good prices (compare to crutchfield)

I have an 88 Dak With 5.25" Sony Xplods in the doors and 5x7" Sony xplods in rear, i have the same problem but mine is basically just the vibration of the plastic where the seat belts are and the door panels. I put a few screws in my rear panels to secure them tightly. That pretty much stopped the rear but for the doors i have no clue....

no actually that (being sony) was NOT the problem..now it is fixed, as i "dynamatted" (really tsunami silencer) the heck out of the whole door panel- before i just had some around the 5.25 inch ring, but the problem was that the sound was hitting the panel, which isnt very sturdy/thick, so it would either flex or vibrate, so outside it wound sound like crap, but now it is fixed..and actually it works so well that my mirrors no longer shake, like they used to, when i put the volume up :)
