 Subject: where to run amp wire

OK I am going to put a system im my truck and need to know where you guys ran your power wire for the amp through the fire wall. I have read on here that there is a hole in the passenger side with a groment in it, but can't seem to find it. If you could descibe what I have to take out to get to it and where it is at.thanks

I ran mine through the firewall on the drivers side, where the wiring harness goes in next to the brake booster. I made a small hole in the grommet, pushed the wire through, then put some silicone sealant around the outside to seal it up.
I've heard about the existing grommet on the passenger side, but decided to run the power wires on the drivers side, where the battery is.

I ran my power cable through the firewall on the drivers side (since it's the side the battery is on). I used the same hole that the hood release goes through. There is a rubber grommet on this which you can get the cable though, it takes a little bit of playing with, but it goes though (I used 8 gauge wire).

I knew that someone on here had a great site about the install that they did and has a pic of the same place that I ran my cable though.
JMII is the one that made the site, the amp intall page has a pic of the firewall at the bottom.

Thanks BigDs02Dak... yep thru the hood release seemed to the easiest place to do it. The wire comes out right near the battery :)

thanks guys, I also have another question, How good are lightning audio amps. I saw on that was 900w at wally world for $160 and was wondering how good they are.

I can't say about that amp, but I just bought a 800 watt amp off of ubid.com for $65. It's a MA Audio which is supposed to be pretty good. You may want to check out that site and see what they have going right now.

I should be getting the amp either today or tomorrow so I'll be sure to let you know how it sounds.
The subs that I have are 2 10" MTX dual 4ohm voice coil 6000 series, that are each rated at 250 watts rms and 500 watts peak. They are matched up to the MTX Thunderform for the CC.
It sounded pretty good with the first amp that I had (which didn't work correctly). And that amp was only a 400watt amp. Since the new amp is twice as powerfull it should sound a lot nicer. :) I'm looking forward to getting it.

I got my amp the other day and was able to install it last night. So far it seems to work well. I took a few pics of it both before and after I installed it. Here they are.

I have a 2002, so I guess it's possible that it's different. But if I'm not mistaken it's the same body style and I would hope that DC didn't change the setup to much for the firewall. Either way I hope you don't have to much of a problem getting it through there, best of luck.
Just wondering, have you decided what amp you are going to use yet?

don't know haven't even got the subs yet. But thinking about a lightning audio 900w. I am thinking about getting pro series subs(at my nearest radio shake)for $160 for 2 12" and the box. but I want some audiobauns but can't find any that I can afford. also I wanted some jl audios but they were more than what I thought they were, about 100 bucks for one of the jl and audiobaun

I found a guy that has them for $80 per 12".
and about a 750-800w amp for $150

I don't know about their subs but so far I am liking the amp that I have from them. Although $150 sounds a little high for the amp if you ask me. Then again I'm going off of my own purchase which was $65 from Ubid.com which is a 800watt Mono block amp.

I got you confused the amp isn't an ma audio amp, I forgot the name of it but the guy I talked to said it was the best bang for the buck type deal. $150 for an amp around here is pretty decent price, everything else around here for a 400w is about $200.

You get what you pay for - if they sell it at Radio Shack you don't want it trust me.
If you looking for a true 800 watts from an amp in the $200 range search eBay for a HiFonics Brutus BX1000D.
