Message:
If I were to upgrade the "Infinity Speakers" on my 01' QC, which speakers would work well with the factory 8-10 ohm AM/FM radio? Give speaker model numbers please.

I think the factory head unit is 4ohm.

who cares what the factory head unit is, because you should replace the head unit before u even think about the speakers.

I'm thinking of upgrading stock speakers first myself.

lol,

Something I learned in electronics school......good speakers will always make a so-so receiver sound better...but a better receiver will never make up for so-so speakers!

I just found out the stock radio/speakers is a 2 ohm system. My mistake.

RTBill, I've heard that before but couldn't confirm it. Where did you get that info?

I've heard they are 2 ohm as well.

So when you replace with regular 4 ohm speakers they will be about half as loud. Oh well... just another reason to ditch the factory unit and an amp if you ask me.

Actually doubling the impedence with 4 ohm speakers doesn't mean they will be half as loud...it just means they will be less efficient electrically due to the impedence mismatch. Some gain in volume might suffer, but not "half". It still works.

I used Pioneer 1767s in the doors when my left front speaker blew. They came with the necessary ring to adapt to the 6 3/4 inch hole in the doors.
Got them at etronics.com, and am very satisfied. Purchased the speaker wiring adapters at BestBuy.
