Subject: an awesome sub...
IP: Logged

Message:

I'm a teenager who would LOVe to have some subs in my 94 dodge dakota (three seater- do you call that regular cab?)..and so i have about 6 inches behind the seat at the bottom and perhaps 3 inches at the top of the seat from the back.

I don't have too much sub/amp knowledge, but i have researched online for options to install a small enclosed subwoofer (powered- all in one kits) that will fit behind my seat. I was wondering what other ppl have installed behind their seats in that tiny area? (no extended cabs, just small three seaters.)

Anyways, i think i have settled to buy the following powered sub:
Clarion Phaze 1 SRV303
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/CLASRV303 or
http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=clasrv303&svbname=309

Real quickly some info:

SRV303 integrates a novel counter-drive subwoofer with a 120-watt (max) digital amplifier in one slim, ultra-compact chassis. The 7" bass driver features an inverted magnet assembly for unheard of slim height ...one of the only powered bass solutions that will fit under most bucket seats and behind most mini pickup bench seats..120 watts of maximum power, a built-in selectable crossover, selectable phase control, and a detachable control panel..Speaker and line level inputs with adjustable sensitivity..Includes horizontal and vertical mounting hardware, and a 17' (5m) control panel extension cable.Power Output: 64 Watts RMS / 120 Watts Peak
Frequency Response: 30 – 200 Hz
Harmonic Distortion (THD): 0.05 %
Signal-To-Noise Ratio (S/N): 80 dB
Fuse Rating: 10 amps (7 amps nominal power consumption)
Dimensions: 13" (330mm) W x 2 7/8"(72.5mm) H x 9 1/16" (230mm) D

Sorry for the length of this post..but i have some questions.

1- Will i need to buy any other equipment to successfully install this in my truck- i have my father to help me, but is it required that i buy some other power amp connectivity kit or does the "17' control panel extension cable" suffice? Excuse my ignorance, but do i have to run a cable to my car battery to the amp or does it auto turn on when you turn the ignition on or whatever?

To help, my truck has an "aftermarket stereo system"- its definitely not the stock one. I have a perhaps 2-yr old Sony MP3 (cdx mp30 model) CD deck with i think 2 rca pre-outs..so i think that makes the amp hookup easier? and i have two sony xplods- came with the truck- i think 5.5" size.. and then in the back i replaced the poor paper speakers with i think pioneer 5X8 speakers. overall the sound quality is pretty good..i listen to lots of music..primarily r&b and hip-hop/rap but also rock/pop..and the bass is decent but not as nice as i would like it to be. im not for having four 12 inch subs that shatter the windows..i just want a nice bass that is good quality and as far as i have researched i think this clarion sub fits the bill nicely and is so small (3 inches depth) that i can just mount in the middle behind my seat...

So im not sure if i missed any important questions in all my rambling/digressions but any help/replies are greatly appreciated. I'm sure it will be awesome having a sub in my truck! :)

Sorry forgot to metion that the two subs are in a combined 10" box. and you are going to need an amp hook up kit, usually comes with three wires a red (usually) power wire to run from your battery to the amp, a shorter black wire to run from a ground source to you amp and then a remote wire that in simple terms "tells the amp to turn on" you could probably just hook the remote wire into your radio fuse so when you turn your radio on the remote gets power and turns your amp on. I have a third sub that really pounds if you want i will send pics or post them on here to let all the gen II owners see, it's a pretty cool setup.

Peace,

Josh
